Sportiest version of the Porsche Cayenne ever, the Turbo GT, added to the Singapore lineup and retails for S$813,688 without COE/options
SINGAPORE – Porsche’s GT series of driver-focused performance cars – the 911 GT2, 911 GT3, and Cayman GT4 – have always delivered extra thrills to drivers who want purist, hardcore performance, but for the first time ever, there’s an SUV in those ranks: The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
The car is priced at S$813,688 without COE/options and available for ordering in Singapore now.
The Cayenne Turbo GT is based on the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, which is the slinkier coupe-styled model in comparison to the regular SUV Cayenne. There’s more power and more focus, obviously, but Porsche promises greater levels of driver involvement as well as lots and lots of pace – the proof being that test driver Lars Kern has set a new Nurb record for a production SUV, at 7:38.9.
Porsche has cranked up the power with a reworked engine. It uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the Cayenne Turbo, but gains new and stronger components including the crankshaft, conrods, pistons, timing chains, and engine dampers. Boost optimisation cranks up power by 90hp for a total of 640hp, while torque is up 80Nm for a sizeable 850Nm.
The car also has a sportier Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission with additional cooling, while appended to the engine is a new titanium sports exhaust system that saves additional weight and terminates in two central, circular pipes like the Cayenne GTS Coupe, framed by a full carbon rear diffuser.
In a straight line that reduces the car’s 0-100km/h to only 3.3 seconds – 0.6 seconds less than the normal Cayenne Turbo Coupe – while top speed increases 14km/h for a total of 300km/h.
As befitting a GT Porsche, the suspension setup and tuning are totally redone for this model alone – it sits 17mm lower, while the stiffness of the air suspension is upped by 15 percent.
The front tyres are a whole inch wider, with added negative camber, and are Pirelli P Zero Corsa performance items. The lighter, more powerful Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system is standard.
It also packs all the handling trickery a modern Porsche can, including all-wheel steering, PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management – active dampers), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC, aka body roll control), and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV, shunts torque to the appropriate wheels front/back inside/out).
More high-speed handling prowess also asks for more aero, and the Cayenne Turbo GT delivers with a GT-specific body/aero kit: A front section with more airflow, side intakes, and a lip spoiler, while the rear has a carbonfibre roof spoiler with extra side-boards to pair with the active spoiler deploying from the tail. Porsche says this adds 40kg more downforce at top whack.
Other unique touches for the GT model include a carbon roof, 22-inch ‘GT Design’ wheels in ‘Neodyme’ color, and black fender extensions. Inside, this extends to Alcantara on many surfaces, four sport seats (it’s a four-seater as standard), color-matched belts, and GT steering wheel.
Interestingly, the Turbo GT also debuts an improvement we’ll see on the rest of the Cayenne lineup eventually: PCM 6.0 (Porsche Communication Management) which is the next step in Porsche’s infotainment systems, and boasts improved performance, a new UI and ‘in-depth’ integration of Apple CarPlay through Apple Music and Podcasts, though it also can sync up with Android Auto.
All of that demands a significantly higher price – S$813,688 without COE/options – than the standard Cayenne Turbo Coupe at S$629,388 without COE/options , or even the range-topping Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe, which goes for S$742,588 without a COE or options – but also consider an uber-SUV like this would cost at least S$900k without a COE from Lamborghini.
