The new fifth-gen Range Rover has arrived in Singapore, and features new hybrid drivetrains and more high-riding luxury; prices start at S$765,999 with COE.

SINGAPORE

The fifth-generation Range Rover has landed in Singapore and for the first time, is available with a choice of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with a future electric version planned for 2024.

Order books have opened for the 3.0-litre Autobiography model in Standard Wheelbase format (SWB), with pricing starting at S$765,999 with COE. Customers who are interested in other variants, such as the Long Wheelbase (LWB) version, or models with other powertrains, can put their name down on local dealer Wearnes Automotive’s waiting list in the meantime.

The new Range Rover kept its design that can be traced back to its origins from generations – its rising sill, falling roofline, and strong waistline. The fifth-gen model now features cleaner styling – for example, the hidden-until-lit rear lights. Range Rover also claims this is the most aerodynamic luxury SUV in the world, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.30. Not very high by regular standards, and bad by EV standards, but pretty good for a high-riding, boxy SUV.

Both SWB and LWB versions will be available in a Sunset Gold Satin finish, with a choice of five exterior colours in total.

For Singapore, the launch model will feature the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that produces 395hp, in Autobiography trim. It goes from 0 to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 225km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 8.1L/100km, and the car falls under the VES band C2, incurring a S$25,000 surcharge.

Other engine options that customers can also order for later include the P530, which packs in a 523hp twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine. There is also a plug-in hybrid model, dubbed P440e, that uses Land Rover’s Ingenium inline-six engine, combined with a 38.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack and a 105-kilowatt (140hp) electric motor, and produces a total of 434hp. This version will only be available in short wheelbase SE trim, but all variants will feature all-wheel steering.

Further down the line, Range Rover will add an all-electric version of its flagship off-roader for the very first time, but that is only scheduled to debut in 2024.

Infotainment and controls can be accessed via Land Rover’s Pivi Pro 13.1-inch curved, floating touchscreen that comes with built-in Amazon Alexa, allowing you to check the weather or the news handsfree. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard for mobile connectivity, while there’s also a wireless smartphone charger to keep your phone juiced up on the go.

Rear passengers can enjoy the new Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system, which provides two adjustable 11.4-inch HD touchscreens. An in-car Wifi hotspot allows for smart TV entertainment on the go, while there is an eight-inch rear seat touchscreen Controller10 mounted in the centre armrest of executive class rear seats that controls seating adjustments and other functions.

Customers can also opt for optional higher-spec premium upholstery finished in textile that combines Ultrafabrics and Kvadrat wool-blend. There is also an optional 35-speaker Meridian audio system that includes a noise-cancelling feature which cuts down on intrusive engine and road noise.

The launch of the Range Rover came on a busy day of launches in Singapore, which also saw the debut of the Mercedes-EQ EQS and Mini’s fresh new editions on the same day. Despite (or because of) the sky-high prices of COE these days, expensive cars seem to be doing well in the sales charts in Singapore, with premium makes dominating the top 10 best-selling brands for the first half of 2022.
