BMW has announced a new high performance version of its iX luxury electric SUV, with the iX M60 being unveiled at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at Las Vegas, USA. The iX M60 is the brand’s most powerful electric car yet, packing in a whopping 619hp and 1,100Nm of torque, while delivering an electric driving range of 566km.

The car will go on sale in selected global markets in June, and while BMW Asia has not confirmed when the iX M60 will arrive in Singapore, our best estimate is that the car will probably be here by early next year. The iX M60 will go head to head with the likes of the Audi E-Tron S and Tesla Model X, and is the second electric model to emerge from the brand’s M performance division, after the i4 M50 Gran Coupe.

The iX M60 goes straight to the top of the iX lineup, which currently includes the iX xDrive40 and the iX xDrive50, of which only the former is available for sale in Singapore right now. Power output is rated at 619hp, while there’s 1,015Nm of torque when the car is in Sport mode. That number rises to 1,100Nm of torque with the car’s Launch Control system is activated. 0-100km/h comes up in 3.5 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

BMW claims that under the WLTP test cycle, the iX M60 is able to return an efficiency figure of 24.7kWh/100km, and an electric driving range of 566km, which is highly impressive for a performance variant. To compare, the iX xDrive40 returns a figure of 24.5kWh/100km, and a range of 312km.

The iX M60 uses an aluminium spaceframe and a carbon cage to help shave weight for better efficiency and performance, and carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) also features extensively in its roof, side and rear sections. The exterior is also marked by M-branded brake callipers, while M logos are applied at the front and the rear of the car, finished in gloss black and titanium bronze, while 22-inch alloy wheels are also available.

The interior remains mostly unchanged from regular IX models, with the large 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen taking centrepiece on the dashboard, paired with the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The system runs the latest eighth-generation of BMW’s operating system, controllable via the crystal iDrive rotary controller.

BMW says that the iX M60 is also its most connected M car ever, being built upon its future modular system, which allows for the incorporation of future Level 3 autonomous driving functionality. It also includes a whole swath of driving assistance features, while the software can be updated remotely over the air in real time if needed.
