BMW’s electric vehicle (EV) showcase the BMW i Pavilion opens at Ion Orchard and previews its first electric 7 Series, the i7.

SINGAPORE

BMW has unveiled its all-new luxury electric sedan in Singapore – the i7 – today at its BMW i Pavilion.

We actually got a first glimpse of the i7 earlier this year in Munich. The i7 is BMW’s first fully electric luxury limousine and the first fully-electric version of its 7 Series flagship car.

The i7 is powered by two electric motors and a 101.7kWh battery pack that is large enough to compete with the Mercedes-EQ EQS,  with a quoted range of up to 625km (WLTP) on a single charge.

The only variant of the i7 that BMW will offer in Singapore, for now, is the electric i7 xDrive60, which is priced at S$500,000 without COE. Deliveries will arrive in early 2023.

The i7 uses a similar electric powertrain setup as the brand’s iX, with two electric motors—one driving each axle—producing a combined 544 horsepower and 745Nm of torque. All-wheel drive is standard and BMW claims the i7 xDrive60 will hit 100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

Upfront, there’s no mistaking that this car is a luxury sedan with its iconic BMW ‘Iconic Glow’ crystal headlights with Swarovski crystals elements (optional) and an illuminated kidney grille as we’ve seen on the BMW iX.

From the cockpit, you get a sleek 14.9-inch BMW Curved Display screen that shows you all information and infotainment which runs on the BMW OS8 platform. The i7 also comes with a suite of driver’s assistance such as Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode.

Interior-wise, BMW’s drive towards sustainability continues in the i7 with the use of recycled materials such as the plastic thread Econyl in the floor panelling, conserving existing resources.

You also get a 5.5-inch touchscreen on each rear door that allows you to access the climate control system, seat setting and multimedia system.

Like the gasoline-powered 7-series, the i7 is a limo-like luxury sedan that can be configured to pamper rear-seat passengers with the optional Executive Lounge package.

That includes a whopping 31.3-inch BMW Theatre Screen with Amazon Fire TV built-in, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system and executive lounge seating that allows rear-seat passengers behind the driver with continuous leg rest.

BMW’s Theatre Screen will be available here, however, only in 2023. In addition, the BMW illuminated kidney contour (lights surrounding the grille) are not yet approved but perhaps sometime in the future. We do expect a Gasoline powered 7 series but will know more at the official launch in the coming weeks.
