SINGAPORE

Singaporean car sharing platform GetGo has debuted the Hyundai Ioniq 5 on their platform.

The Ioniq 5 becomes the fourth EV available on the platform, joining the Hyundai Kona and Ioniq, and the MG ZS

GetGo was founded in 2020 and is a point A-to-A car sharing platform with no membership fee – just the rental fee (based on hourly rates) and the mileage charge.

The platform’s fleet currently houses mostly ICE cars from brands like Honda, Hyundai, and Mazda.

At present, there’s only one unit for each EV available on the platform. However, Toh Ting Feng, CEO and co-founder of GetGo says that the company aims to have a fleet of 10,000 vehicles by 2030 – 50% of which are expected to be EVs, with the rest hybrids.

Mr Toh also notes that GetGo aims “to make car-sharing a pillar in the transport ecosystem of Singapore.”

To support this, GetGo has signed Memorandums-of-Understandings with Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Singapore (HMGICS) and CDG Engie at Jurong Spring Community Centre, where the Ioniq 5 was also unveiled.

GetGo’s partnership with HMGICS will see at least 50 locally-produced Ioniq 5s to their fleet next year. These will be produced in the Jurong Innovation District

The two entities are also exploring methods of integrating GetGo’s service within Hyundai’s ecosystem.

To support the addition of EVs to their fleet, GetGo has also partnered with CDG Engie and their EV charging network. GetGo will be rolling out 10 EVs over six months in the Jurong Spring district.

These will be recharged by CDG Engie charging points in the Jurong Spring and wider Jurong area, and go towards making Jurong an “EV-ready town” as set out by Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong.

CDG Engie currently has close to 60 charging points, half of which are in the Western region that will support GetGo when their EVs roll out. By the end of 2022, they target to have 500 charging stations islandwide, as mentioned by General Manager of CDG Engie, Freddie Chew.

Apart from a fully electric fleet by 2030, GetGo aims to reduce the demand of privately owned cars, as Mr Toh shared with CarBuyer Singapore. They aim to also reduce the environmental impact of motoring and reduce the real estate needed for motoring in roads and car parks.
