MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA, USA

Kia’s most powerful car ever, the EV6 GT, made its North American debut at the Monterey Car Week in California, USA. The presence of the EV6 GT at Monterey, alongside numerous supercar models, solidifies Kia’s place as among the most sophisticated players in the automotive world.

The fully-electric Kia EV6 GT is currently a left-hand-drive only model, so its availability for Singapore is yet to be confirmed. But the regular EV6 is scheduled to be launched here later this year, so there’s a probable likelihood of the flagship EV6 GT arriving on our shores some time in the near future.

The car sits on the E-GMP modular platform which will form the basis for future electric models for the Hyundai-Kia group, and in the EV6 GT, will feature a twin-motor setup. A 160kW motor in front and a 270kW motor at the rear combines to produce a total of 577hp and 740Nm of torque, powered by a 77.4kWh battery that has been optimised for performance.

The result is a car that can go from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds, and hit a top speed of 260km/h. In independent third-party testing, the EV6 GT managed to out-accelerate the likes of the Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder RWD over a 0-100km/h sprint, further underlining the Kia’s performance prowess.

Kia has also given the EV6 GT a series of performance enhancements over the regular EV6, including dedicated sport suspension with electronically controlled dampers and unique front suspension performance components. An electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) helps enhance traction and stability while cornering, while there’s also a Drift Mode that sends power solely to the rear wheels.

The EV6 GT also offers 800V fast charging capabilities, which allows the car to recharge the battery’s capacity from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes using a 350kW charger. The EV6 GT is part of Kia’s “Plan S” strategy to launch at least two battery-electric vehicles (BEV) per year and build a full line-up of 14 BEVs by 2027.

“The EV6 GT ushers in the next chapter of the Plan S electrification story for Kia, elevating the EV6’s thrilling performance and effortless drivability beyond expectations,” said Steven Center, COO and Executive Vice President, Kia America. “Moving toward our tailpipe zero-emissions goals has never been as exhilarating.”
