Local Kia distributor Cycle & Carriage Kia will introduce the Sorento Hybrid on 4 February, priced at S$205,999 with COE

SINGAPORE

Local Kia distributor Cycle & Carriage Kia will be launching the Sorento Hybrid on 4 February, with the large seven-seater SUV retailing at S$205,999 inclusive of COE. The hybrid features the same powertrain as its Korean cousin, the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, and joins the rest of the current Sorento line-up, which are powered by 2.2-litre diesel engines.

The Sorento Hybrid’s pricing is almost on par with the Sorento 2.2 SX Tech Pack variant, but the hybrid could prove to be the savvier choice financially given its potential tax and fuel savings over the regular Sorento.

The hybrid features a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine mated to an electric motor, for a total combined output of 230hp and 350Nm of torque. Kia quotes an average fuel consumption figure of 5.4L/100km for the Sorento Hybrid, which is not far off from the diesel model’s 5.7L/100km, but the hybrid is arguably cleaner given that it can offer zero emissions driving.

Both models fall under the VES B neutral banding however, which means it gains neither a rebate nor penalty under the system. The hybrid’s smaller 1.6-litre engine though means that it incurs significantly less road tax (S$1,116 a year) when compared to the diesel model’s 2.2-litre engine (S$2,052 a year).

In terms of spec, the Sorento Hybrid matches that of the one on the diesel SX Tech Pack, which means it gets standard equipment such as the 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, heated and ventilated front seats, and a Bose premium sound system.

It is also equipped with a bunch of advanced safety systems, including forward collision avoidance assist, blind spot collision avoidance assist, and rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist, among others. Other standard features include lane keeping assist, smart cruise control, the clever camera-based blind spot monitor, a wireless smartphone charger, and a head-up display.

The introduction of the Sorento Hybrid marks a quick start for Kia in Singapore in 2022, with the Korean brand having launched the Sonet compact crossover SUV just on New Year’s Day. Next in its pipeline is the highly anticipated EV6 premium electric car, which is scheduled to arrive here in March.
