SINGAPORE – McLaren Singapore displayed a bespoke version of its latest supercar, the 765LT Spider, at the Bell Helicopter Hangar, yesterday.

The 765LT was unveiled alongside a custom, Gulf-liveried version of its predecessor the 675LT, with a Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopter in the background.

The 765LT Spider on display was customised for its owner by McLaren Special Operations, which is the British sports car brand’s name for its bespoke production studio. The paintwork is named ‘MSO Bespoke Pacific Colourstream’, and it appears mostly purple, but it also has a colour-shifting aspect, so there are also shades of orange and blue iridescence.

The 765LT models were/are both limited to 765-units apiece, and all totally spoken for – as is normal for limited-run supercars in this day and age. The cost of the base 765LT Spider is S$1.75m, but that goes up to S$2m with the special paintjob alone.

The 765LT Spider was announced in July 2021, and is the convertible version of the 765LT Coupe – ‘LT’ stands for ‘Longtail’, which is McLaren’s name for its special edition, high-performance models. It offers the expected eye-opening performance figures: 765hp from a 4.0-litre biturbo V8, 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds, 329km/h top speed. Like the coupe, the 765LT Spider is based on the regular 720S sports car.

McLaren Singapore also announced an interesting tangent for supercar buyers: Its Guaranteed Future Value Programme (GFV) for those who buy the 720S. In short, McLaren will offer a guaranteed buy-back (aka trade-in) price within two years of sale, just for buyers who want to upgrade to the latest and greatest model.

If you’re wondering about the chopper, the Bell 505 is the aircraft company’s mainstay model and cursory Googling shows it costs from USD1.2m (S$1.6m) and has a top speed of 175 knots, or 261km/h – which means it’s both less expensive and not as fast as the McLaren. But both machines should give their owners plenty of air time, nonetheless.
