Bespoke Rolls-Royce Phantom created for customer in Singapore with exclusive paint colour and orchid theme. The price? At least S$2.4m….

SINGAPORE

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Singapore unveiled its one-off, bespoke Rolls-Royce Phantom Orchid on 27 January 2022.  Born from an idea initiated by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Singapore, the specially commissioned Phantom Extended is the only one of its kind in the world, and was already bought by a resident of Singapore.

The orchid-themed car features sculptural textile artwork by award winning artist Helen Amy Murray, housed within the car’s Gallery. That’s what Rolls-Royce calls its application of glass, running uninterrupted across the dashboard fascia.

Murray’s previous collaborations with Rolls-Royce include Whispered Muse for the Phantom

Styled around the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended with a 570hp, 6.7-litre V12 engine, the Phantom Orchid features a sleek white finish with shimmering violet tints. Depending on the angle it’s viewed, fine glass particles in the paint change how the finish shimmers.

Like plenty of other bespoke works, this paint is one-off, known as Singapore Orchid Pearl White. Rolls-Royce is no stranger to making unique paint, it’s done so multiple times for one of its repeat bespoke customers Michael Fux and named one shade after him.

On the coachline of both sides are the Orchid Motifs, and the interior picnic table tops have Orchid Inlays specially made for the car. The seats and steering wheel are wrapped in Grace White leather with Contrast Seat Piping in Havana.

Renee Chua, Managing Director for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Singapore, spoke of how the Singapore team was ready to be adventurous after the success of the SG50 Ghost Series II.

Michael Bryden, Lead Designer for Rolls-Royce Bespoke, decided that Singapore was ready for another piece after a visit in 2019 left him enamoured with the little tropical city-state.

The orchid motif of the car brings to mind Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim. This design concept eventually underwent eight rounds of revision (and more for the gallery) for a year before the final concept that was shown to prospective customers. According to Mr Bryden, the visuals of the orchids harmonise with the Phantom’s peaceful interior and are reflective of his time in what he called the “beautiful natural paradise” that is Singapore.

In Rolls-Royce’s move towards ‘post-opulence’ the bespoke work is supposed to make less effort to be flashy   – you know its place and it doesn’t have to yell it, so to speak.

The car arrived in Singapore on Sunday, 23 January and has been confirmed to be making its way to its owner on 28 January. Rolls-Royce declined to reveal the price of the car in the interests of customer confidentiality, but here’s a clue: a standard Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended, without any custom options, already goes for around S$2.4 million without COE. Bespoke, one-off editions add a lot to the base price.

CarBuyer tested the Rolls-Royce Ghost EWB last year. It’s not a Phantom, but it’s still very much a Rolls…
