SINGAPORE

In support of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, Singapore Polytechnic and Inchcape Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 5 April 2022 to strengthen related technical skills and knowledge for EVs among students and prospective motor industry talents. This partnership will extend into EV-focused curricula and job outreach.

The two-year long partnership will see the introduction of educational programmes and the development of EV-focused curricula at Singapore Polytechnic, along with career programmes at Inchcape Singapore.

As the core of this partnership centres around EV education and training, lecturers from Singapore Polytechnic and Inchcape Singapore’s Aftersales Team will collaborate on these programmes . They will focus on providing learners with practical and industry-related knowledge of electric vehicles, arming them with the skills needed to handle EVs.

Inchcape Singapore will also be donating lithium-ion batteries to Singapore Polytechnic for students to utilise on research projects and as tools of resource.

Singapore Polytechnic has already mapped out an educational programme to equip over 550 Inchcape Singapore staff with ‘EV 101’ knowledge by the end of 2023. A select cohort will also be able to attend EV training programmes with levels ranging from introductory to advanced. It is estimated that by 2024, approximately 700 learners will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to boost Singapore’s sustainable mobility.

Soi Wai Wah, CEO and Principal of Singapore Polytechnic says, “Our strategic partnership with Inchcape will promote more lifelong learning opportunities for learners of all ages, and imbue them with the knowledge and capabilities in EVs to build a future of sustainable living.”

This partnership will also see internship opportunities and the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme at Inchcape Singapore, beginning in 2023.

Each year, two students will be attached to Inchcape Singapore as part of the internship programme. This number however is set to increase over the years. Singapore Polytechnic graduates and mid-career switches trained through Singapore Polytechnic’s programmes will also be able to find employment in one of three of Inchcape Singapore Aftersales Team’s three main functional programmes.
