A BYD Atto 3 owner in Singapore shows us just why he would drive this Chinese EV over other established luxury cars anytime

SINGAPORE

The BYD Atto 3 is an urban crossover SUV that was launched in Singapore in July 2022. Mr Woo, a 73-year-old family man, shared with us his experience of why it was a no-brainer to make the switch from his previous car, a Japanese luxury SUV.

BYD’s Atto 3 has a single electric motor with a 60.5kWh battery. With a power output of 201hp and a claimed electric range of 489km on a single charge, Mr Woo has no concerns whatsoever about range anxiety. Based on his driving mileage, he only needs to charge his Atto 3 once a week. He states that the BYD Atto 3 saves him half of his previous expenditure in fuel costs over his previous petrol-powered ICE car.

Charging aside, the Atto 3’s interior design stood out to Mr Woo as well. “Basically, it’s the front end. It is completely different from other cars,” he says. He also added how at times he feels as if he is piloting an aeroplane, given the look and feel of the Atto 3’s gear levers. The car’s brisk acceleration, quiet cabin, and comfortable seats seal the deal for him.

He was also full of praise for the Atto 3’s 12.8-inch touchscreen that runs on BYD’s proprietary operating system, known as DiLink. “It’s good, the navigation itself is very clear,” states Mr Woo.

Mr Woo. explained how he hoped that other brands could be like BYD, which at present offers existing customers the use of charging stations at the showroom, as he finds it seamless to juice up his Atto 3 while he heads off for a coffee or food around the vicinity.

“As we know, the price of electricity for charging EVs is much cheaper than petrol and given how the government is already building more charging stations around Singapore including in HDB carparks, I think this will attract more Singaporeans to make the switch to driving electric cars,” said Mr Woo when quizzed about what made him decide to drive a BYD Atto 3.

Summing up his experience since making the switch, he added, “the interior is comfortable, the driving is what attracts me – it’s really easy to drive, and easy to handle. I love it, my wife loves it, my family loves it.”
