The Maserati was involved in a hit-and-run in 2017, among other infractions including illegal modifications

SINGAPORE

In 2017, a Maserati was involved in a hit-and-run where a police officer was dragged for more than 100m. Six years later, the vehicle will be forfeited to the state, according to The Straits Times.

The vehicle, along with its driver Lee Cheng Yen, have committed numerous offences over the years.

Lee was first caught in May 2013 for altering the exhaust system of his Maserati, and continued to use it up till November 2015, resulting in getting caught eight times. He also caused an accident in 2016, which resulted in a motorcyclist suffering fractures.

In July 2017 he was fined a total of S$13,500, and the car was detained for three months.

By November that year however, Lee had committed the title hit-and-run. Enforcement checks were being conducted at Bedok Reservoir Road, and when a traffic police officer approached the Maserati, Lee accelerated with the officer’s uniform caught in the driver-side door of the car. When the officer fell onto the road, Lee sped off.

A motorcycle with an ex-SCDF officer riding it witnessed the accident and began following Lee. Lee was eventually caught at his friend’s home, and was arrested and charged in court. He was sentenced to four years and seven months jail, along with a S$3,700 fine.

Lee is also facing charges of online gambling along with illegal money lending.
