Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new latest generation GLC in Singapore, with a plug-in hybrid version officially available here for the first time

SINGAPORE

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC has arrived in Singapore, featuring revised looks, more space, a completely revamped interior, and a new plug-in hybrid model that is officially offered here for the first time. Two engine variants are being offered at launch, with the GLC 300 starting at S$389,888 with COE, and the GLC 300e plug-in hybrid beginning at S$398,888 with COE, and both models come in Avantgarde and AMG Line trims.

Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e AMG Line

As stated in our news story last year, the GLC has been Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling model for the past couple of years, with the previous generation having sold over 2 million units worldwide since its introduction in 2015. The latest model will therefore play a significant part in helping the brand cement its position at the top of the sales charts, and the introduction of the plug-in hybrid model is also a signal of the brand’s move towards electrification, with Mercedes-Benz aiming to have a fully electric line-up by 2030.

While the latest GLC bears a similar design to its predecessor, under the skin the car is completely new. The car is actually 60mm longer than before, being based on the platform of the latest C-Class, and as a result there is more interior room for passengers. The larger size has also led to a bigger boot as well, with cargo capacity now standing at 620 litres, an increase of 70 litres over the previous model.

The styling changes mostly pertain to the front, where the car gets a newer and larger grille with a more prominent three-pointed star logo, and flanked by slimmer headlights. The rear gets a more subtle redesign, with slimmer LED taillights that are connected by a thin bar across the centre. The sportier AMG Line trim gets a slightly different grille treatment from the Avantgarde model, as well as a more aggressive lower front bumper treatment.

Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Avantgarde

As mentioned, there are two versions being offered in Singapore at launch. The GLC 300 petrol model is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo four-pot that produces 258hp and 400Nm of torque, and is matched with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that offers an additional 23hp of boost that assists with acceleration and fuel efficiency.

The highlight of the lineup though is the GLC 300e plug-in hybrid, which features a 2.0-litre petrol engine matched with an electric motor for a total combined output of 313hp and 550Nm of torque, and qualifies for a S$15,000 rebate under VES A2. The GLC 300e offers an impressive 138km of electric driving range, and the 31.2kWh battery is also able to take in fast DC charging, allowing it to go from 10 to 80 percent charge in just 20 minutes. All GLC models come with Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system as standard.

The other significant changes to the GLC pertains to the interior, which has now been completely revamped. The main highlight is the vertical 11.9-inch central touchscreen that was first seen on the C-Class, and is paired with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s instrument panel. The cabin is otherwise typical contemporary Merc, with the dashboard taking on a minimalist design with few digital buttons.

Standard features include the latest generation of the MBUX infotainment system, which incorporates Augmented Reality for the navigation system, allowing it to display clearer and more accurate information to the driver. There is also a Parking Assistance package, which is standard on the AMG Line and optional for the Avantgarde models, that includes a variety of cameras to assist with parking and manoeuvring, including a transparent bonnet function that displays images from directly underneath the front of the car.

Both the GLC 300 and GLC 300e will be offered in Avantgarde and AMG Line trims, with the full pricing appended in the table below. Other models are expected to follow towards the end of the year, including the possibility of high performance AMG variants, while the entry-level GLC 200 model, with 204hp and 320Nm of torque, may be introduced once COE premiums stabilise to a slightly lower level.
