Honda has revealed the all-new Civic Type R, which is set to go on sale in Japan later this year; Singapore availability unconfirmed

TOKYO, JAPAN

Honda has revealed official pictures of the all-new Civic Type R, which is set to go on sale in Japan later this year. There’s no word on the car’s availability for Singapore as yet, but should it make it here, a 2023 launch date is probably likely.

Based on the latest generation Civic, the new Type R features a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that has been carried over from the last version, but specially tuned to make it the most powerful Type R ever. Honda did not reveal performance figures for the latest model, but the previous car made over 300hp, so expect the new one to surpass that figure.

Honda also said that the new Civic Type R will come with a six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching. The car also gets unique rear doors that are wider than the regular Civic, and Honda also emphasised on the car’s aerodynamic enhancements, including the flared fenders, an aggressive front bumper design, large air intakes on the front bumpers and sills that enhances airflow, a large rear spoiler, and a rear bumper that incorporates a rear diffuser and the signature triple-exhaust outlets.

Inside, the Type R gets unique elements such as the iconic red bucket seats upholstered in suede, as well as red carpet and trimmings. It also gets a +R driving mode that incorporates a digital instrument cluster that is reminiscent of the S2000 roadster. There is also a Honda LogR data recorder that can log information such as lap times, as well as offer the ability to share driver videos.

More information about the new Civic Type R is expected to be released later this year, but there is speculation that this could be the very last Civic Type R to be powered by an internal combustion engine, with future versions set to go electric.
