The new Polestar Snow Space in Finland is a temporarily frozen showroom for its EVs and also a test drive location

ROVANIEMI, FINLAND

Polestar, which began as a Scandinavian touring car racing team, has established a “first-of-its-kind retail Snow Space” in the Arctic Circle.

The Snow Space opened its doors on 10th January 2023 and will welcome people until February 26 2023, when it will be demolished and the snow will be returned to the ski slopes. It was built in three weeks with 105,944 cubic feet (3,000 cubic metres) of snow from the Finnish ski resort of Ounasvaara.

The electric vehicle manufacturer displayed its Polestar 2 EV inside the 6.5-foot (2.0-meter) thick walls, along with wheels, suspension parts, and brakes sculpted as ice sculptures by local artisans.

The frozen showroom, which stands 39 feet (12 metres) tall, was inspired by the minimalistic Scandinavian style of Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, and was constructed by the Finnish firm Frozen Innovation based on blueprints prepared by Polestar architects.

“The city of Rovaniemi is known for its wonderful design. We wanted to honour this by creating a beautiful work that was inspired by our brand’s minimalistic and pure design language. The choice of building material was easy due to the location and our desire to use circular materials: of course, it had to be built from snow,” said Polestar Finland’s Marketing Manager Martin Österberg.

The Snow Space in Rovaniemi will serve as a base for Polestar’s Arctic test drives of the electric Polestar 2. It will also act as a platform for collaboration between the EV maker and the Arctic Design Week in the Finnish town.

The Snow Space is Finland’s second Polestar Space and one of about 130 Spaces, which is also what the brand calls its showrooms, globally.
