Head down to Mandala Club and Gardens By The Bay to experience Porsche’s artistic collaborations

The world of art is nothing new for Porsche, having launched ‘The Art of Dreams’ in October 2021 to success. The piece ‘Remember your dreams’ by French artist Cyril Lancelin made its way here for Singapore Art Week 2022, its first and only Asian stop. This year, Porsche takes on Singapore Art Week and ‘The Art of Dreams’ again with Chris Labrooy’s ‘Dream Big’. 

Located at Silver Leaf, Gardens By The Bay, Labrooy’s art installation stands at 3.5 metres tall and features a 911 Carrera wrapped in white. Resembling a child playing with a car, the piece aims to ‘speak to the child in us’. Originally sitting on sand, the Singapore installation takes inspiration from the rubber playground floors found in local housing estates. 

A Porsche enthusiast as well, Labrooy’s medium of choice is the photo-realistic digital world, with bright and dreamy landscape often the backdrop for multitudes of brightly coloured surreal Porsches. 

A select few of Labrooy’s pieces are also on display at Mandala Club, Porsche Singapore’s new (temporary) experiential brand space. In a new partnership, Porsche Singapore has taken over the ground floor of the private members club in a bid to connect with Porsche enthusiasts more freely. 

Head of PR and Communications at Porsche Asia Pacific Brendan Mok also spoke of how customers were more likely to gravitate towards a place like Mandala Club that they can enjoy with their friends and family, as opposed to the automotive belt of Singapore that is Leng Kee and Alexandra. 

Apart from Labrooy’s art exhibit, the centrepiece of Porsche’s Mandala Club takeover is arguably Daniel Arsham’s ‘Crystal Eroded Porsche 911 (992)’. One of Arsham’s earliest projects, the art car expresses his concept of ‘Fictional Archaeology’, imagining the car 1,000 years in the future. 

The car sees parts of it eroded with quartz and pyrite crystals, extending throughout the door, roof, and hood. On the interior the upholstery is dotted with Daniel Arsham marked drawings, and is reworked with earth-tone-washed canvas. The license plate reads ‘ARSHAM 3019’ and sits on the rear, a reference to the ‘Fictional Archaeology’ concept.

Being an experiential brand space, merchandise of both Arsham and Labrooy’s work will be available at the Mandala Club with proceeds going to *SCAPE in support of local and youth programmes for the creative arts, media and entertainment, and entrepreneurship. 

Chris Labrooy’s ‘Dream Big’ installations runs until 15 January, during Gardens’ operating hours of 5am to 12am daily.
