Suzuki has launched its all-new S-Cross crossover, which now features 48V mild hybrid tech, and is priced at S$177,900 with COE

SINGAPORE

Suzuki has launched its all-new S-Cross, the company’s first new model to arrive here in almost two years following the Ignis. The latest S-Cross gets an extensive restyle, and now features a 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain as well as new safety features, and is priced at S$177,900 inclusive of COE.

Powering the new S-Cross is a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that produces 127hp and 235Nm of torque, which puts it into COE Category A. The engine is paired with 48-volt mild hybrid tech and a six-speed automatic transmission, with 0-100km/h coming up in 12.7 seconds. Fuel efficiency is quoted at 5.7L/100km, and the S-Cross falls into the neutral B band under the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES).

The new S-Cross measures in at 4,305mm long, 1,785mm wide and 1,585mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600mm long, and the dimensions are near identical to the outgoing S-Cross model, given that they run on the same platform. Suzuki says though that the new S-Cross features a fairly generous 440 litres of boot space with the rear seats, which can be folded down in a 60:40 split.

Standard features on the new S-Cross include LED headlights, which flank the aggressive piano black front grille, a 9-inch high-definition touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, as well as plenty of storage space throughout, in keeping with the S-Cross’s status as a family-friendly crossover.

The new S-Cross also comes with a host of safety features, including a 360-degree view camera, land departure warning and adaptive cruise control, as well as something called weaving alert, which warns the driver if it detects that the car is swaying within or across lanes.

Suzuki hopes that the S-Cross will help to revitalise the brand here in Singapore, as the carmaker’s lineup of predominantly smaller cars have been disproportionately affected by sky-high COE premiums in recent years. The S-Cross is targeted at a larger target base of family car buyers, and will hopefully help to revive Suzuki’s fortunes in Singapore in an increasingly-tough automotive market.
