The Chinese electric SUV has been rated as one of the safest new-generation EVs available

The BYD Atto 3 is a very safe car, according to the Euro NCAP safety rating guide. The made in China EV’s safety test report has just been released by the European New Car Assessment Program, which rated it very highly in all aspects. It was given the top 5-Star safety rating.

Other cars of similar size rated with a 5-Star Euro NCAP certificate include the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Crash testing results of the BYD Atto 3 showed that the actual passenger compartment was highly stable and holds up to impact from all angles, and the high level of standard safety equipment fitted added to its high score.

Parents can feel secure too, as when used with properly fitted car seats for children, the official report noted that, “In both the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact, protection of all critical body areas was good for both child dummies, and the ATTO 3 scored maximum points in this part of the assessment.”

While the ratings from the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) are not binding nor do they certify vehicles for road use, European consumers pay a lot of attention to Euro NCAP’s safety tests and the result is that automakers aggressively market good ratings.

Rain or shine, the BYD Atto 3 is a proper 5-Star Euro NCAP certified car

Of interest is that two other Chinese-made cars scored only four stars on the same test: the Citroen C5 X, built by a joint venture between Stellantis and Dongfeng, and the Mobilize Limo, an electric sedan made by Renault, together with Jiangling Motors. Both are currently not available for sale in Singapore.

The BYD Atto 3 was launched in Singapore in mid-2022, and while high COE prices have not allowed for quick sales, especially since the car has been rated for the more expensive Category B segment, it has been well-received by the public shopping for a family-sized electric SUV.
