Spearheading Audi’s EV offensive will be the upcoming Audi Q6 e-tron SUV and a newer, smaller, entry level e-tron model positioned under the Q4 e-tron.
SINGAPORE
In line with its Vorsprung 2030 strategy, Audi is revitalising their corporate roadmap to create a more sustainable and successful future with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and circularity at its core. Their aim: endeavouring to be a sustainable, social and technological leader in the industry by 2030.
During Audi’s Annual Media Conference 2023, the brand reported 1,614,231 vehicle deliveries worldwide in 2022. While it’s a 3.9 percent decrease from the number of deliveries recorded in 2021, the group reported €61.8 billion in revenue for the 2022 fiscal year (up from €51.3 billion in 2021). An impressive feat given the geopolitical climate in Europe, logistics & supply chain challenges and chip shortages that have afflicted the automotive industry.
Additionally, the group reported a sharp uptake in the delivery of BEVs. Audi’s e-tron models saw a significant 44 percent growth, accounting for 7.2 percent of Audi’s total vehicle deliveries in 2022.
We’re no strangers to Audi’s electric vehicles. Since 2018, we’ve seen the e-tron SUV in the flesh at its Californian unveiling, bogged it in the desert over in the UAE, driven it extensively in all its guises (e-tron 50, e-tron 55, e-tron S) and had a sampling of what the e-tron GT and its RennSport kin could muster on Singapore’s streets.
So clearly, Audi is ready for the shift from ICE to EV. As the impending Euro 7 emission regulations come into play in Q3 2025, Audi is quickly transitioning their fleet of vehicles to accommodate even more EVs into the mix.
Come 2025, the brand intends to launch ‘around’ 20 new models, more than half of which will be BEVs. In line with their defossilisation/decarbonisation efforts, Audi intends to produce an all-electric offering for each vehicle segment by 2027.
Spearheading the EV offensive is the upcoming Audi Q6 e-tron, pictured above in camouflage during winter testing in the northern reaches of Europe. The Q6 e-tron will be Audi’s first BEV built atop the brand’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) technology platform, which is being developed with Porsche.
We don’t have specific details on the Q6 e-tron’s powertrain and variants, but we know that it will utilise Audi’s newly developed 800V electronic architecture. It’ll also have powerful and efficient electric motors with an innovative battery and charging management system.
In addition to the Q6 e-tron, the brand will also be producing an entry-level model that sits below the Q4 e-tron in the brand’s model lineup. No word on when this entry-level EV will be unveiled, but we do know that the Q6 e-tron which will be unveiled in the second half of 2023 and the A6 Avant e-tron is set to make its debut sometime in 2024.
