Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG
This is probably one of the most exciting cars at this year’s Singapore Motorshow. Mercedes-Benz takes one of their most iconic vehicles, their G-Class into the (near) future, with the almost production-ready Concept EQG. The G-Class was first introduced to the world in 1979, and it would be safe to say, some of you reading this, might have yet to be born.
The idea of having the concept SUV front-and-centre at MB’s booth during this motorshow, is because the G-Wagon is simply easily recognisable, even with the covers on, according Claudius Steinhoff, President & CEO of Daimler South East Asia.
The Concept EQG, like the G-Class, is still built on a body-on-frame construction, which is then paired with an independent front and rigid rear axle, while each wheel is driven by its very own motor. This even allows the electric SUV to turn on its axis. To be sure that it can do the off-road thing, the Concept EQG is equipped with a “proper” reduction gearbox.
So here’s the good news, the German automaker has confirmed that Singapore will receive the EQG by this year.
BMW iX1
The covers were also pulled off the electrified version of the BMW X1. The BMW’s smallest electrified SUV, or in BMW-talk, an SAV, is powered by the brand’s fifth-generation eDrive technology (which is also found in the BMW i5).
In Singapore, the ICE X1 sDrive16i caters to a more price-sensitive audience, where it qualifies as a Category A COE car. The electric BMW iX1 also follows suit, where its motor is tuned to produce 110kW (147hp) and 250Nm. It clocks 100km/h in a humble 10.5 seconds, and is electronically limited to 170km/h.
The BMW iX1 has a retail price of $240,888 (accurate at time of writing)
Polestar 6 electric roadster
Back in 2022, we got the first glimpse of one of the only two concept Polestar 6 electric roadsters in the world, during the Polestar 3 launch in Copenhagen. Back then, the Volvo spin-off even hinted that the car would have its own drone, which is activated from within the car. The drone would have its own take-off and landing area – which you will be able to still see, as the flat area behind the seats.
We understand that the Polestar 6 will be slated for launch in 2026, with the first 500 units being limited-edition “LA Concept” versions. These include custom-designed 21-inch alloy wheels, unique body graphics, and animal welfare-traced leather interior.
From now till 2026, Polestar will also be introducing the Polestar 4 and 5, in 2024 and 2025 respectively. As for an indicative price, the Polestar 6 is slated to retail at around SGD$1 million.
