As part of its inaugural corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) announced a series of initiatives aimed at the local youth and the community at large

SINGAPORE

At an event graced by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), together with community partners, announced their inaugural corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, in partnership with the President’s Challenge.

HMGICS’ commitment will see them form initiatives and partnerships with various establishments, that include educational institutions, arts and design institutes, and community organisations. These will feature initiatives that span student education across various learning stages, donations of electric vehicles, food donations and monetary donations, which are designed to make a positive impact within the local community.

“The spirit of progress onwards for a better future is engraved in Hyundai Motor’s DNA. We believe in engaging in efforts and partnerships that support communities in Singapore, and this underscores all our work in developing sustainable future mobility innovations. HMGICS has achieved significant milestones in collaboration with Singapore since its inception. To continue this path, we are dedicated to helping local youth and communities grow together through our CSR initiatives, empowering and uplifting them to create a brighter future for all. This is our contribution to supporting Singapore’s society, giving back to communities and contributing to local talent and the economy,” said Dr Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICS.

The effort will see partnerships with various stakeholders, to aid in empowering the next generation, through education. The efforts include the following:

Learning Journeys
HMGICS is committed to bring innovation from the smart factory to young minds across the learning spectrum. Over here, all schools will have the opportunity to visit the centre, to learn more about future innovations.

Hyundai is also in partnership with MINDS and Rainbow Centre, where they will offer tailored specialised learning journeys for students with intellectual disabilities and autism.

Work Experiences
Where tailored work experience programs, focused on sciences and engineering will be held with institutions like Boon Lay Secondary School, School of Science and Technology, and River Valley High School, on work experiences. HMGICS will also be in collaboration with Tak Takut Club in the Boon Lay Area, to extend the same programme to youth from low-income households.

Internships
HMGICS will be in partnership with select Polytechnics and universities for a three to six-month internship programme, to give students a taste of what it is like to work in the real-world.

Nanyang Technological University, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, the National University of Singapore, Singapore Institute of Technology, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design are already part of this programme, and with an aim to be more inclusive, HMGICS will be developing a corporate internship programme for students with physical disabilities.

Collaborative partnerships
HMGICS will be teaming up with LASALLE to develop branding and promotional videos for the IONIQ series of cars, and the Innovation Centre. Additionally, they will lend their support to students from NUS, NTU, and LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) for their school and passion projects.

Lastly HMGICS has committed a locally-made IONIQ 5 vehicle for educational and research purposes to Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Institute of Technology.

Giving back to the community

HMGICS announced that all proceeds from the booking of the HMGICS Discovery Tour, and tours of the premises will be donated to the President’s Challenge.

In partnership with The Food Bank Singapore, the centre has also committed to donating any excess vegetables from the HMGICS Smart Farm, in a bid to alleviate food insecurity. These include fresh Ice Plant, Red Coral Lettuce, Swiss Chard, Mustard, Kale, Romaine Lettuce and Mizuna.

Lastly, HMGICS’ first EV to be made in Singapore will be donated to the National Museum of Singapore, where it will be accessioned into the National Heritage Board’s National Collection. The IONIQ 5 will be part of the museum’s National Museum’s Collecting Contemporary Singapore initiative that documents important contemporary events as they unfold.
