First unveiled at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, the Mazda MX-5 celebrated its 30th Anniversary at the same place this year with a new colour: Racing Orange.
Our sources from Mazda Singapore say the Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition will hit Singapore’s streets in the second half of 2019. Pricing is TBC at this point, but no one can stop you from checking out our review of the Mazda MX-5 here.
If you want one, you’d better get on the horn to Eurokars Mazda now though.
Only 3,000 units (including both the soft-top and RF retractable hardtop models) will be commissioned, and Mazda includes a 30th anniversary badge (complete with serial number) on the rear wheel arch. It’s unclear how many units Singapore will be receiving.
Nab one, and you’ll be the envy of a large number of Americans at the very least: the 500 units allocated to the USA are all already spoken for.
The Hiroshima-based automaker has come up with a novel Racing Orange paint for the model, it’s an “exclusive body colour that evokes the breaking dawn of an exciting new day”, and a tribute to faithful MX-5 fans for their overwhelming support.
In 2000, the Mazda MX-5 was declared by the Guinness Book of World Records to be the best-selling two-seat sports car in history. Mazda has since beaten and updated its own record after producing the millionth MX-5 in April of 2016.

This 2.0-litre sports car can take you from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, and that remains unchanged for this version as internal specifications are untouched, but you’ll certainly look faster now (blazing fast, some might say).
You do get some nice extra kit and trim though.
The Racing Orange on this limited edition MX-5 extends into the interior, accenting the Recaro seats, door trim, dashboard and shift lever, as well as the Brembo front and Nissin rear brake calipers.
The Bose nine-speaker sound system is another added touch in this iteration, as well as 17-inch Rays forged aluminium wheels. The manual transmission models will also come with Bilstein dampers.
