Kia’s highly anticipated electric vehicle wins one of the world’s most prestigious automotive award, the first Kia to win such an award

FRANKFURT, GERMANY

Kia’s premium electric car, the EV6 has been named 2022 Car Of The Year at the European Car Of The Year Awards. The midsize SUV was voted in by a jury of 61 people that consisted of highly respected motoring journalists from 23 European countries.

The EV6 was one of 60 cars in consideration for the coveted title, and made it through to a shortlist of seven. Six of which were electric vehicles, showing a strong and growing shift towards electric vehicles as the future of the automotive industry. In addition, the EV6 makes for the first Korean car to win, and the third EV ever to win.

Jason Jeong, President of Kia Europe, spoke on how it was a “great honour to have won the 2022 European Car Of The Year with the EV6, the first ever Kia to win this prestigious award.”

The EV6 is Kia’s first model built on a dedicated EV platform and offers up to 528km of range when fully charged. It also allows for extra-fast charging of up to 240kW, providing you the ability to charge your car from 10-percent to 80-percent in just 18 minutes. Kia hopes that this will solve one of the biggest concerns when it comes to full adoption of EVs – long charging times.

The Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) the EV6 is based on gives the car increased cabin space and legroom for passengers in its interior. Keeping in line with their vision of sustainability in creating the EV6, the car also features seats made from recycled plastics and sustainable materials. Jason Jeong, President of Kia Europe also noted that “The EV6 is an exciting sign of what’s still to come in our electrified line-up.”

There will be five variants ranging from 168hp to 584hp, but no word yet on which ones we’ll see here in Singapore. However all five are available abroad with single and dual motor options, and varying battery size capacities.
