SINGAPORE — The Citroën C4 Cactus officially goes on sale in Singapore today, after a sneak preview for readers of TopGear Singapore at the Citroën showroom last night and an early appearance at January’s Singapore Motor Show.

Singapore is the first country in Asia to get the car, according to Lionel Faugeres, the general director of Peugeot-Citroen’s Asean division.

At the launch he called the C4 Cactus the “living embodiment of being different.”

It costs $113,988 (with COE) but this weekend sees it priced at $99,988 for a launch promotion.

The quirky crossover has dramatic styling and unique design touches like “Airbumps” — air-filled bumpers that shield the doors from dings and dents.

The 1.2-litre car also has sofa-style front seats, and its passenger airbag is mounted in the roof to free up space in the dashboard for storage.

It’s not hugely powerful (with just 80bhp to call on), but its light weight makes it a hoot to chuck around corners, says our review of the car.

The C4 Cactus is being launched with a $2,500 promo this weekend, consisting of a free Blackvue in-car camera, Huper Optik solar film and 12 pick-and-return services to and from the workshop for maintenance.

Citroën was the leading French brand here last year, with sales of 272 cars putting it ahead of sister brand Peugeot (229) and Renault (125). Asean is a major source of growth for the brand, with sales in the region rising 71 percent in 2014.
