Priced from S$451k with COE: BMW M3 and M4 previewed as part of this year’s BMW World SG 2021, cars arrive in March

SINGAPORE

The new BMW M3 and M4 have arrived in Singapore for a preview as part of this year’s BMW World SG 2021 event, before officially launching in March. Both models are available only in top-spec Competition trim locally, with prices starting from S$460,888 inclusive of COE for the M3 Competition, and S$465,888 with COE for the M4 Competition.

The prices include a Launch Edition M Carbon exterior package (pictured on both cars here), which consists of a carbon fibre front air inlets, wing mirror caps, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. The kit is a S$14,000 option otherwise, but will be standard for the initial shipment of cars arriving in Singapore.

The examples on display here are finished in Sao Paulo Yellow (M4) and Isle of Man Green (M3), both of which are new and exclusive shades for both models. Both cars here were flown in and homologated for BMW World SG, the brand's mega-showcase, and Singapore is amongst the first markets in the world to see the cars land in the showroom. However, customer deliveries will only start in March this year.

As detailed in our earlier news story, the new M3 and M4 feature the controversial grille that first appeared on the new 4 Series. Both cars are powered by 3.0-litre, twin-turbo in-line six-cylinder engines, which, in Competition trim, produces 510hp and 650Nm of torque.

It’s an engine that's clearly a favourite within the ranks of BMW. “For me it’s the best engine in our lineup, to be very honest,” says Christopher Wehner, managing director of BMW Group Asia, who also had a hand in the product development of the 4 Series before his latest posting to Singapore.

Both cars are able to hit 100km/h from standstill in 3.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 250km/h. Other highlights include specially-tuned adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, as well as variable ratio M Servotronic steering. There’s also M Drive Professional, an all-encompassing suite of software gadgetry that aims to help the driver maximise the car’s performance on the racetrack, including a 10-stage adjustable traction control system.

Aside from the performance bits, BMW has also packed the M3 and M4 with a host of convenience features. These include the Driving Assistant package, which incorporates features such as lane departure warning, and front collision warning with braking intervention. Other standard items include adaptive LED headlights with BMW's Laserlight system, parking assist, a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control system.

According to a representative from Performance Munich Autos (PMA), the authorised dealer for BMW’s M models here in Singapore, customer reaction to the new M3 and M4 have been very positive, with the dealership having received inquiries from way back in October 2020 when the cars were first announced. The four-door M3 is by far the more popular car between the duo, with PMA noting that the sedan model outsells the M4 coupe by a ratio of 3 to 1 in Singapore.
