This codename was chosen to work cohesively with this aggressive theme, in order to bring out the front fascia of the Scirocco that is believed to share a close resemblance to a cobra head after aesthetic modifications. Even the entire bodykit is designed to mimic the look of a cobra with its fangs being extended.

The owner, Kevin, purchased his Volkswagen Scirocco with only one intention in mind – to ensure that his ride is made to look as flashy as possible. Most of the enhancements are customised, which makes this Scirocco a rarefied species among plenty of mainstream examples roaming the streets. While it might seem that Kevin’s Scirocco is tuned to be performance-oriented with an abundance of performance upgrades (with its looks beefed up primarily by a full Rieger kit), we were pleasantly surprised to learn that it features dedicated audio improvements beneath the snazzy golden hue too.



This ride is fully furnished by Alquest Sound Dynamics, and interestingly, this Scirocco is their very first attempt for EMMA Racing, a new segment for Singapore that also takes into account the performance enhancements over and above its ability to provide supreme listening pleasure. When we delve into the goodies within, you will notice the head unit that remains in OEM trim. This might come as a surprise taking into account the amount of exterior work placed to transform his Scirocco into a head turner, but Kevin prefers not to fettle with the classy VAG centre console.

To enhance its audio capability, a Mosconi DSP 6-to-8 processor was added, and this makes full use of the full active time alignment and crossover settings to optimise the sound. This “Made in Italy” signal processor allows the OEM head unit to deliver high levels of signal and convert them into low signal with minimal distortion. Notably, the DSP technology within this small 150 x 125 x 40mm aluminum housing can be installed easily. Yet, it boasts the ability of much larger units – a unique selling point for consumers who prefer to keep enhancements neat, simple and effective.

On the dashboard sits the Mercury “Kristal Series” tweeter packaged in a custom aluminum pod. The mid bass accompanies both tweeters and they can be found situated neatly on the door panel. This competition series speaker has yielded plenty of results in EMMA competitions last year – not an easy feat considering the number of audio heavyweights in participation. And to up the “bling” factor, the seats are illuminated via custom lightings, affording a unique sense of style to Kevin’s Veedub.While the Scirocco is not known to swallow plenty of luggage space within the rear third, Alquest Sound Dynamics drew up a masterplan to house all audio essentials without fuss.



The rear trunk sits two sets of Mercury Masetro Series 90.4, only one of the very few tube amplifiers left in the industry. Powered by pure MOSFET and then passing through the tube to reproduce exemplary sound reproduction with 90 watts per channel, two channels were used for the tweeter and another two were utilised for the mid bass. This leaves another two channels bridged for the 12-inch P2 sub-woofers from Rockford Fosgate. Taking centre stage was the compressor tank for the air bomber suspension. Working around space restrictions to full effect does not come much smarter than this.
