The ultra-luxury Bentley Bentayga SUV gets even an bigger variant for extra rear legroom, priced at S$1.3mil without COE

How big do you want your luxury SUV? You can now buy the Bentley Bentayga SUV in extended wheelbase specification, pushing the 5.14-metre long car out lengthwise by an extra 18cm. If you’re interested, the starting price is S$1,329,000, without COE and options. 

The Bentley Bentayga first arrived way back in 2016, and was one of the earlier proponents of the super luxury SUV for the uber rich. Two years after that, Rolls-Royce rolled out its own Cullinan SUV to take the de facto top spot in luxury off road motoring and a whole slew of other luxury carmakers continued in the same vein, with Lamborghini’s Urus S promising supercar performance and style in an SUV body shape.

But back to the Bentley Bentayga EWB (Extended Wheelbase), its extra length over the base model appears entirely at the space for the back seat passenger, and as a consequence the car has slightly longer rear doors than the standard version.  

In standard form it’s classed as a 4+1 seater, with two individual seats that feature the usual individual, 16-way reclining adjusters you would expect from a car in this category. The middle jump seat at the rear is accessed after folding up the centre armrest, though realistically it isn’t the most comfortable place to be in over long distances. 

You could however order the car in 5-seater specification with a standard rear bench or a full 4-seater configuration which does away with the centre jump seat. There’s also the airline seat specification, with individual rear seats that recline down to 40 degrees from horizontal. 

Other options that you can fit include powered doors that open and close automatically at the touch of a button. 

The Azure edition of the Bentley Bentayga EWB shown at the launch has a starting price of S$1,519,000 without COE and options, and as you might have guessed, it’s essentially an upscale version of the standard specification Bentayga.

Bentley states that “the Azure range provides Bentley customers with a curated selection of features designed to enhance the wellbeing and comfort of the vehicle’s occupants, making every journey a relaxing experience regardless of distance. Azure is more than a specification; it includes tactile and visual cues designed to reduce stress and promote wellbeing, along with driver assistance technologies for smoother, safer journeys.”

The Bentayga EWB is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, with a maximum power output of 550 horsepower and a maximum torque of 770Nm. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed gearbox helps it launch from 0 to 100km.h in 4.6 seconds, just 0.1 seconds slower than the shorter, standard wheelbase version.

If you think the car is going to be difficult to get through tight street corners, you’ll be quite wrong because it comes with electric four-wheel steering fitted as standard, and it actually has a smaller turning circle than the standard two-wheel steered Bentayga.

Also with Bentley’s Beyond 100 electrification plan already in play, these could be the last generation of ICE powered cars from the British luxury carmaker.
