26 June – BYD’s popular Seal model is now more attainable, with a Category-A COE variant. This comes in the wake of its higher-powered twin less than a year ago. You’d know that it is not a secret that in doing this BYD is taking aim at Tesla’s recently introduced (Singapore only) Cat-A Model 3 Highland.

The new BYD Seal Dynamic 100kW replaces the former Dynamic variant, with the only change being a reduction in power, to comply with Category-A COE standards. As such, the BYD Seal Dynamic 100kW single rear-mounted motor delivers 136hp, (69hp more than its predecessor) and does century sprint in 10 seconds, as opposed to 7.5 seconds in the previous Dynamic variant. The 100kW car retains the same 310Nm of torque, which, to make it simple, same shove, less quick.

Visually, there are no changes to the exterior, and the same goes to the Seal’s interior. Some of the main highlights include the 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, 12-speaker Dynaudio system, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof and Smart Voice Assist. To add to connectivity, owners can download the BYD App, which seamlessly integrates the vehicle with their smartphones. With this, they have the flexibility to control features such as pre-cooling, monitoring battery usage, and locking/unlocking their car.

The BYD Seal Dynamic 100kW retains the same 61.44kWh battery, which provides it the same range of up to 460km. In rapid charge mode, the 100kW Seak charges from 30 to 80 percent charge in just 32 minutes with the use of a 110kW DC charger. The Seal comes equipped with a suite of safety driving features such as blind spot detection, open door warning, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

Mr James Ng (Managing Director of BYD Singapore and the Philippines) highlighted the increased adoption of electric vehicles in Singapore and expressed gratitude towards customers for their enthusiastic support of the brand. He also hinted at the upcoming launch of another three to four models in the coming months, with the highly anticipated introduction of BYD’s luxury-focused sub-brand – Denza. We understand that this is expected to debut in Singapore around Q4 2024.

Ms Adelene Tan, Director of Sales and Marketing at Vantage Automotive Limited, also expressed her delight that a Category-A COE variant of the BYD Seal has been realised. She noted that customer interest had been strong since the launch of the initial Seal lineup late last year.

Prices for the BYD Seal Dynamic 100kW begin at S$169,888.
