Looking for an affordable second hand MPV that offers great value for money? Check out these five selections from the CarBuyer Marketplace!

SINGAPORE

A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is often the most ideal car for family duties. Many MPVs offer the ability to seat up to seven, meaning that your kids and even your extended family can ride along. Some also feature sliding doors, which makes access to the rear much more convenient, and offers easier access for parents to place their young kids into their child seats, for instance.

With Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums soaring in recent months, family men looking for an MPV might want to consider one from the used car market. Here are a selection of MPVs that you can find on CarBuyer Marketplace for under S$80,000, or less than the price of a Category A COE today.

2009 Honda Freed
COE Expiry: 30 Apr 2029
S$74,800

There is a new Honda Freed in town that has been attracting a lot of attention, but the original model was also a massive hit among car buyers here. The Freed’s greatest appeal is its compact dimensions, which makes it easy to drive around town, while its rear sliding doors offers great accessibility to the cabin. Its popularity is underlined by the fact that there are several available on sale on the Marketplace, including this 2009 model that’s going for S$74,800, as well another slightly more affordable one from 2009 that’s selling for S$71,800.

2009 Toyota Wish
COE Expiry: 11 Mar 2029
S$65,800

One of the most popular MPVs of all time in Singapore, the Toyota Wish represents the best of what Toyota has to offer. Endlessly reliable and essentially bullet-proof, the Wish is the perfect choice for those who want a problem-free family ride that will last for years. There are no shortage of Wishes available on the Marketplace, including this 2009 model selling for S$65,800 that has had its COE renewed, as well as this newer 2017 model that’s going for S$77,800. One thing’s for sure, these Wishes will be able to last for several more COE cycles yet.

2009 Honda Stream
COE Expiry: 11 Feb 2029
S$70,800

Another Japanese SUV that was once hugely popular with the masses here was the Honda Stream. Similar in size to the Wish, the Stream was the choice for family men who still wanted to have some fun behind the wheel, while offering Honda’s legendary bombproof reliability. Here’s one from 2009 that’s going for S$70,800 which comes with a sunroof and a sporty body kit, or you can also consider this clean looking 2009 model that’s slightly more affordable at S$65,800.

2016 BMW 216d Gran Tourer
COE Expiry: 27 Jul 2026
S$79,800

If you want something more premium and upmarket, how about a BMW then? The 216d Gran Tourer was the brand’s first ever MPV, and was a massive sales success in Singapore. Its diesel engine offered great fuel economy, while it also offered the ability to ferry seven around in style and luxury. Here’s a neat example from 2016 in black with sporty aftermarket rims that’s going for S$79,800.

2016 Mazda 5
COE Expiry: 16 Feb 2026
S$58,800

A truly underrated MPV, the Mazda 5 is certainly one worth considering if you’re looking for a nice combination of space, versatility and drivability. One of the few in its class to offer sliding doors, the Mazda 5 is a very practical choice for those who want a reliable Japanese MPV that’s still somewhat unique. Here’s a 2016 model going for S$58,800 that looks very well maintained.
