Meet the nominees of the Dream Car Award for CarBuyer Singapore’s Car Of The Year

CarBuyer Singapore’s very first Car Of The Year awards, chooses the best of motoring from 2022, and these are your nominees for the Dream Car Award.

We all have cars that show up in our dreams (and daydreams). If that Toto ticket comes good someday, these are the cars we would recommend to lucky readers.

BMW iX

BMW’s flagship electric SUV, the iX, presents its unique take on luxury electric motoring, by offering plenty of tech as well as class-leading efficiency. Its bold design, inside and out, marks a breakthrough for the brand, and sets the marker down for what the future of electric luxury should look like, by offering a great blend of style, luxury, refinement and efficiency.

Ben says: A definite head-turner, the iX proves to have the substance to back up its style. Extremely luxurious and full of tech, while also ultra refined and efficient to drive, the iX demonstrates BMW at their cutting-edge best.

Ferrari 296 GTB

Ferrari’s new plug-in V6 is every bit the sports car you want it to be, and then some. The introduction of hybrid power gives the 296 GTB a more slightly responsible slant, but make no mistake, this is still a Ferrari through and through. If anything, it makes its performance even more electrifying.

Derryn says: Ferrari has overcome the problem of electrification with a brilliant hybrid drivetrain that sounds like a baby V12 and is matched with ridiculous handling, grip, and desirability.

Maserati MC20

Maserati’s first new supercar in nearly 20 years takes a decidedly old school approach, with its rip-roaring mid-mounted engine wrapped up in a sexy supercar body. More than anything though, the MC20 also represents the last of its kind, with the brand set to move towards electrification in the years ahead, and so the MC20 could very well be the Maserati’s farewell to internal combustion.

Lionel says: A car built for handling at speed with a manic, howling engine to match. It’s sparse in the way of luxury trimmings but get it on a closed racetrack and it’ll drive like the real supercar that it is.

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo take everything good about the Taycan, and adds a touch of crossover style to the mix. The mind-blowing electric performance remains, but the Cross Turismo now comes with a dash of ruggedness and practicality, while still keeping the Porsche essence that makes it a driver’s delight.

Derryn says: Porsche has taken everything nice about the excellent Taycan EV and given it more practicality and rugged style without major comprises.
