Proven result through Borescope Test

While independent testing has shown Techron® with Clean & Glide Technology™ can effectively reduce wear by up to 38 percent and friction by up to 41 percent compared to the previous formulation, it is not just about the numbers.

A selected group of drivers in Singapore volunteered to put their cars through Caltex’s borescope test, where the internals of their car engines were checked with a borescope before and after refuelling for approximately two weeks with Caltex with Techron®. These drivers went about with their usual routine during this time and as you will see below, some drivers experienced some positive changes while using Caltex with Techron®.

Here are some examples of Caltex with Techron®, put through a Borescope test. Through the use of a Borescope, an optical instrument, we can inspect deep into the engine’s core through its narrow and difficult-to-reach cavities. This allows us to visually inspect how clean (or dirty) the engine is.

Kimberly (one of the drivers who volunteered her car for the borescope test) drives her MPV, a 15 year-old car with a lot of mileage under its belt after being used to ferry her two children around and also in her work as a real-estate agent. In the initial borescope assessment, it was uncovered that the 2.0-litre, four cylinder engine contained a build up of carbon deposits on the intake valves which actually led to a lower fuel efficiency and slower power response.

Committed to improving her vehicle performance, Kimberly decided to give Caltex with Techron® a try. For 14 days, she fueled up only using Caltex with Techron® and returned to the service station for a follow up borescope test.

Before the engine internals were checked again, Kimberly reflected that she did experience a significant change while driving. When going to town to fetch her daughter, she usually has to stop at a lot of traffic lights, but remarked that her car felt a lot smoother when accelerating from junctions. Additionally, she commented that she managed to get more mileage out of her car. She shared that previously, she had to refuel once a week, but with a full tank of Caltex with Techron®, she managed to go an extra two days before refuelling!

The second borescope inspection revealed a cleaner engine as the Techron® additives detached the carbon deposits clinging to the internal components and pushed them out along with the exhaust gas. The end result?  A car that is smoother to drive and capable of delivering better fuel economy than expected!

Another driver, Jean, reported a similar experience with her Kia Cerato K3. Being a lifelong user of Caltex with Techron®, the evidence was clear when her car was put through the borescope test which revealed a set of spotless intake valves in her car’s engine.
