2022 saw the rate of adoption of electric vehicles in Singapore triple over the year before, and the percentage continues to grow at a very quick pace. Despite the increased competition, the very elegant BMW iX3 is still a proven class leader in a very crowded luxury electric SUV segment. It is packed with leading-edge technology

One of the biggest considerations with electric vehicles is power efficiency, and the BMW iX3 leads into it with its adaptive LED headlights that brighten up every night drive while requiring very little electrical power. 

The car’s driving range is accentuated by the 20-inch, aerodynamic wheels. Made of a lightweight alloy that makes them weigh around 15 percent less than a comparable wheel on other cars, it also features a surface that cuts aerodynamic drag by around two percent. The result is that the wheels alone officially extend the car’s range by up to 10km, as measured on the WLTP cycle.

Inside the car, BMW Operating System 7 software is the heart of the user interface. A large 12.3-inch centre touchscreen lets you access standard BMW features like the GPS navigation system, but the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control takes it up to the next level. The A.I.-based listening software learns your voice intonation and adapts to your most often-used requests, and certain vehicle functions including the air conditioning can be entirely automated via voice control.  

It has serious luxury credibility

Any luxury family car worth its salt has a cabin that’s as comfortable as it is spacious. The iX3’s airy interior is further amplified by the expansive panoramic glass roof. With UV-resistant Vernasca leather upholstery that is built to withstand the harshest equatorial sunlight, the iX3 is a car that is built to be durable and efficient.

A driver’s heads-up display on the front windscreen shows you all the important driving data you need while on the road. When you’re away from the car, you are still connected to it with the My BMW App on your smartphone. 

Besides showing you the car’s status including battery level, whether the windows are closed and if the door is locked, you can also remotely operate some convenience functions, one key feature being the ability to set the car’s air conditioning to cool the cabin just before you get into the vehicle. 

It is super efficient

Featuring a single electric motor, rear-wheel drive format, the BMW iX3 packs a 75kWh battery pack. With an official drive efficiency figure of 19.4kWh/100km, the car is good for a range of up to 460km per charge as measured on the WLTP cycle.  

It’s powerful too, with a rated power output of 286hp. The 0 to 100km/h sprint is dashed off in a brisk 6.8 seconds. It’s as fun a car to drive as it looks, which is sure to bring out the driving enthusiast in you.

A maximum charge rate of 150kW DC tops up the battery to 80 percent capacity in just 35 minutes. Even at a charging rate of 50kW DC, which is what many public charging stations in Singapore currently offer, the iX3 takes only 74 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent battery capacity.

With more than 3,000 public EV charging stations already up in Singapore at the end of 2022 and more on the way, recharging the iX3 is as fast as it is convenient. The high charging performance future-proofs the car and makes it ready to accept higher inputs as more of them are built, so you can continue to enjoy your drive for years to come.
