The new twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 with a very healthy 560 horses and 755Nm of torque. Zero to 100km/h is now handled in 3.6 seconds, 200km/h comes just 7.6 seconds later. In comparison, the California makes 460 hp and 485 Nm of torque.

And, it’s an exotic convertible with a proper V8 that sneaks out 250g/km of CO2, and a fuel efficiency of 10.5L/100km.

Unlike the F1 cars, the California T still retains the trademark wail with the use of a trademark flat-plane crankshaft, three-piece cast exhaust manifold with equal-length pipes which boost combustion harmonics and the quality of the exhaust sound.

To cure the turbo lag, Ferrari designed the twin-scroll turbos to be compact for little inertia, reduced the size and weight of the crankshaft, and there is the variable boost management system. The result, says Ferrari, is “50 percent quicker than the best-performing engines in the segment”.

Is this a boulevard cruiser then? Not quite. Keeping drivers on the edge are a number of new changes. First, the 10 percent quicker steering rack with 11 percent stiffer springs. And the SCM3 magnetorheological damping system, that has been beefed up with new sensors, new piston rods and a faster response time.

Those who fancy exploring the limits of grip, will appreciate Ferrari’s newest F1-Trac traction control system for more efficient torque managament. The system claims to be able to deliver a 8.5 percent faster exit out of corners. Last but not least, the face-ripping brakes that can stop everything from 100km/h in just 34 metres.

With a body that looks sharper and bolder than the outgoing Cali, the T’s semi-aniline leather interior houses a high-tech Human-Machine Interface: The steering wheel with integrated controls while the Turbo Performance Engineer (TPE) sits between the two air vents at the centre. This touch-sensitive device displays the time, exterior temperature, turbo pressure, plus Turbo Response and Turbo Efficiency.

The California T is fitted with an intuitive infotainment system with a WVGA screen, GPS with 3D mapping for easier routing and simpler commands and dedicated functions, making navigation between multimedia content and telephone contacts much simpler. The audio system boasts new speakers and an 8-channel amp. Drivers that demand the finest sound quality can order the powerful JBL Professional system which has 12 speakers and a 16-channel amp for a total power output of 1280W.
