Most powerful E-Class ever on display during an exclusive event with Mercedes F1 drivers

In a private event held at the Ritz-Carlton hotel on September 14, racing fans had an opportunity to get up close for a meet and greet session with Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

More importantly, they were also witness to the first public display of the new Mercedes-AMG E63 S, which costs from $568,888 with COE, and is available now.

“Something something tyres, something something for sure, something something happy to be here…”

The E63 S uses the familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that features in all the other ‘63’ AMG models (such as the S 63 and C 63, as well as the AMG GT sports car), but here it’s in its hottest state of tune ever, with 604hp and 850 Nm of torque. That makes the E63 S nearly as powerful and more torquey as the Mercedes SLR McLaren of 2004, a carbonfibre hypercar capable of 330km/h.

More significantly, the E63 S is now available only with all-wheel drive (aka ‘4MATIC’ in Merc lingo), the better to reign control over those prodigious power and torque figures. AWD AMG sedans are in fact not a new idea – the previous-generation E 63 offered AWD as a variant in left-hand drive markets and it was by far the more popular option, but this time all cars worldwide will have it as standard.

Such a system will add a layer of sophistication to AMG’s traditional handling characteristics and crucially, will instill drivers with more confidence on the road and in bad weather, but the E63 S can also play the hooligan if you want it to. In addition to the usual Comfort, Sport and Race drive mode settings, the E63 S also has a Drift mode, which disconnects the front wheels and allows the car to show off AMG’s traditional party trick – vapourising rear tyres.

Keep things on the straight and narrow though, and the E63 S is capable of some serious performance figures. Activate launch control and you’ll be seeing 100km/h from standstill in just 3.4 seconds, making it the joint-quickest super saloon alongside the upcoming BMW M5. For now though, as the most powerful four-door car you can buy in Singapore, the E63 S is the undisputed Big Kahuna.
