Hyundai has announced that it will set up a global mobility innovation centre in the Jurong Innovation District here in Singapore

SINGAPORE

In a boost to Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative that pushes towards a digital innovation society, Hyundai has announced that it will set up a new Hyundai Mobility Global Innovation Centre (HMGIC) here in Singapore. The project will be developed together with JTC Corporation, with the support of the Economic Development Board (EDB).

Slated to be completed by the end of 2022, the HMGIC will occupy a total area of 44,000 square metres in the Jurong Innovation District, with 28,000 square metres dedicated to building facilities.

The HMGIC will be a manufacturing base and open innovation lab that will play a major role in helping Hyundai evolve into a smart mobility solution provider. For example, the HMGIC will have a small-scale pilot electric vehicle (EV) production facility that will develop and test future EV technologies.

In essence, technologies and features that you might be able to see in future Hyundai cars, whether they be EVs or autonomous vehicles, could be developed and tested at the HMGIC right here in Singapore.

Hyundai will also partner with local educational institutions, such as Nanyang Technological University (NTU), to conduct joint projects and collaborate on research on digital innovation and smart mobility solutions once the HMGIC is established.
