McLaren has confirmed that it is planning to release the Sports Series, a sports car which will slot beneath the 650S in its line-up. The Sports Series will be a junior sports car which will be the Woking carmaker’s answer to rivals such as the Porsche 911 and Audi R8.

The Sports Series, which was previously codenamed P13, will be unveiled during the second quarter of 2015, according to McLaren, and its name suggests that there might be more than one model to come. At the very least, expect a Coupe and a drop-top Spider version, with the possibility of a stripped-out track version as well.

The company has not yet released full details, but it says that the car will have a carbon fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine. To build up to the car’s unveiling next year, McLaren has also announced the launch campaign for the Sports Series, which it has dubbed Black Swan Moments.
