The two heavyweight German brands will be bringing in some exciting cars this year, with Audi offering a fleet of S and RS performance models, including the new RS 3, as well as the triple-motor E-Tron S and E-Tron Sportback S electric SUVs. BMW too will be introducing a host of important new models, including the next generation 2 Series Active Tourer, while further bolstering its electric lineup with the new i4 and i7.

Alpine
What: A110 S Facelift
Variants: A110 GT, A110 S
When: TBC
How Much: S$270,000 without COE
French sports car brand Alpine still only has one model, essentially, but it’s a corker. The A110 rear-mid-engine coupe was tested by us in base, high-performance S, and Legende variants and is an absolute blast to drive. 2022 brings a facelift to the A110. As before, the entry level will be the A110 GT. For the A110 S, there’s a tad more power, and it does 0-100km/h 0.2 seconds quicker (4.2 seconds), which should only improve the excellent driving experience. The styling gets mildly updated, with the A110 S model now packing a showy rear wing. Inside, the cabin layout is retained, but the new 7.0-inch infotainment system claims to be much more modern, which is good as the current one is rather outdated.
Aston Martin
What: V12 Vantage
Variants: V12
When: TBC
How Much: At least S$800,000 without COE, options
This is the swan song for the petrol-only Vantage, and it’s shaping up to be a grand one. Just like the previous Vantage V12, this slaps a lovely twelve-cylinder engine into Aston’s sports car/GT package with likely fire-breathing results. The 5.2-litre biturbo V12 as seen on the DB 11 and DBS should be found under the bonnet of this car, along with various aero and chassis tweaks to help cope with at least 700hp. Given the bog standard V8 Vantage costs around S$700k we expect this car to cost at least S$800k without anything on it.
Bentley
What: Flying Spur Hybrid
Variants: 2.9 V6 PHEV
When: H2
How Much: TBC
Even super-lux limos can’t escape the Age of Responsible Motoring, which is why Bentley is releasing a plug-in hybrid version of its Flying Spur limo in 2022. It couples the VW Group 2.9-litre V6 (seen in Audis and Porsches mostly) with an electric motor for a total system output of 536hp/750Nm of torque, which allows 0-100km/h in a quick 4.3 seconds. The 14.1kWh lithium battery can be charged in under three hours and delivers a WLTP range of 40km. It could be efficient enough to net some VES discounts in Singapore, but unlike mainstream cars don’t expect it to offset much of the cost. A ‘Hybrid’ badge and qual-oval tailpipes mark the car as different from its solely petrol-powered siblings.
BYD
What: Yuan Plus
Variants: Standard 50kWh, Premium 60kWh
When: Q2
How Much: TBC
BYD has positioned itself as one of the least expensive EV brands around, but 2022 sees it change tack with the Yuan Plus, which is a new, small SUV. A glance is enough to show that BYD isn’t going for the least-expensive end of the market here, with a clean, futuristic design that showcases the ‘Dragon Face 3.0’ design approach. The clean design also extends to the interior, which has a 15.6-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen and some innovative design elements.
The Yuan Plus also debuts the EV maker’s new E-Platform 3.0, which could bring big improvements to overall performance and refinement. Global reports say the car could weigh as little as 1.7-tonnes, which is quite good for an EV. The Yuan Plus will be sold in two versions, the Standard with a 50kWh battery and 340km range, and Premium with a 60kWh battery and 500km range.
