What: 718 Cayman GT4 RS
Variants: GT4 RS
When: Early 2022
How Much: From S$628,488 without COE
Announced with great fanfare in late 2021, the first-ever GT4 RS version of the Porsche 718, also known as the Cayman, will soon be available in Singapore. The order books are already open and rumour is that it’s doing great. There was never an ultra-high performance RS variant of the Cayman for the longest time because observers noted that Porsche did not want to take the focus away from its iconic rear-engined sports coupe, the 911.
But things change and here’s a track-focused 718 with its 4.0-litre, flat-six engine taken straight from the current Porsche 911 GT3. It makes 493hp, and will be paired only with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
The exterior is festooned with fast and furious-looking aerodynamic aids to help keep the car planted at speed, and in typical Porsche style you can pay for the optional Weissach Package to get an even more exclusive-looking car. You’ll probably have a hard time getting your hands on one, given Porsche’s long waiting list these days, but you can read more about the Cayman GT4 RS here at least.
What: Taycan
Variants: GTS sedan
When: Early 2022
How Much: From S$579,958 without COE
We knew this was coming since the launch of the original Taycan. The Taycan GTS is an all-wheel drive model, though there is a base rear-wheel drive model of the Taycan on sale here too. In the upcoming GTS, the dual-motor setup packs 517hp under normal circumstances, but can be turned up to 598hp on overboost mode in short bursts. That slots the GTS right above the 4S model (530hp) and below the Turbo (680hp). 0-100km/h is done in 3.7-seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h. More details in our launch story, though the Sport Turismo shooting brake is likely to be offered only on indent, if at all.
What: Cayenne
Variants: Turbo GT
When: Q3
How Much: From S$813,688 without COE
Based on the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, which is the slinkier coupe-styled model in comparison to the regular SUV Cayenne, the Cayenne Turbo GT stuffs in more power and focus, obviously, but Porsche promises greater levels of driver involvement as well as lots and lots of pace – the proof being that test driver Lars Kern has set a new Nurburgring record for a production SUV, at 7:38.9.
The car uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the Cayenne Turbo, but has been fitted with plenty of stronger engine internals to allow for cranking up the power by 90hp for a total of 640hp, while torque is up 80Nm for a sizeable 850Nm.
The car also has a sportier Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission with additional cooling, while appended to the engine is a new titanium sports exhaust system that saves additional weight and terminates in two central, circular pipes like the Cayenne GTS Coupe, framed by a full carbon rear diffuser. More details in our in-depth story on the first ever ‘GT’ badged Cayenne.
What: Panamera
Variants: Platinum Edition
When: Q4
How Much: From S$424,088 without COE
In the usual Porsche tradition, some of the Panamera series will be getting a Platinum Edition trim level at the tail end of 2022. The base model Panamera, Panamera 4, and Panamera 4S E-hybrid will be the cars getting the Platinum treatment, which is an entirely cosmetic exercise.
You’ll find black trim surrounding the windows and exhaust, smoked-lenses on tail lights, and satin platinum 21-inch Exclusive Design sport wheels. The same satin finish that’s found on the wheels is used on select surfaces and badging on the exterior. The interior of the Platinum Edition Panameras get brushed aluminum trim, with ‘Platinum Edition’ badging on the door sills.
