The facelifted Peugeot 2008 SUV gets even bolder styling cues, better interior tech and better range for the electric E-2008
SINGAPORE
Peugeot has revealed the faceted version of the brand’s B-Segment SUV, the E-2008 and 2008. The 2008 has done well for itself since its launch in 2019, having sold nearly 700,000 units and topping sales charts in Europe back in 2021.
The facelifted 2008 is slated to go on sale in Europe sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2023 and will be available with four powertrains – a diesel, two petrol powertrains and the all-electric E-2008.
Currently in Singapore, the Category A (COE) friendly 2008 1.2 PureTech (with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol) and E-2008 BEV are on sale, so we should expect facelifted versions of the aforementioned variants to make landfall.
Design and changes
Up front, the “prancing” Lion logo has been ditched in favour of Peugeot’s new emblem. The model badge has been moved lower and the grille has been subtly tweaked with more texturing on the edges that meld into the headlamps (which have been tweaked), akin to the front fascia of the 408 fastback. The claw-marked DRL signature that was in the headlamps is now housed lower on the bumper, with three diagonal LED strips inlaid onto piano black inserts on either side of the grille.
Round the back, the taillights still incorporate Peugeot’s “three claw” lighting elements, but the LEDs are now positioned horizontally as opposed to vertically. The font on the rear badging has also been altered, and the Peugeot monogram on the gloss black trim piece between the tail lamps has been enlarged. Peugeot has also done away with the lion emblem on the rear fascia to clean up the look of the rear.
On the inside, the cabin fixtures and touchpoints are nearly identical to the current 2008 models, but now feature revised designs for the digital instrument cluster. Situated on the dash is the same 10-inch infotainment screen (that now comes as standard) and features Peugeot’s latest generation i-Connect and i-Connect Advanced infotainment OS.
The new 2008 also offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and the infotainment system is able to receive OTA (over the air) updates. The i-Connect Advanced system now has a natural language voice recognition system that allows drivers handsfree control of their infotainment system simply by saying “OK PEUGEOT”.
Powertrain
While the 1.2-litre petrol powertrain of the ICE-powered 2008 has remained unchanged, the E-2008 has been upgraded significantly. It now has a maximum output of 156 horsepower and a larger 54kWh battery. The new E-2008 has a quoted WLTP range of 406 km on a single charge, which is a rather significant improvement over the previous car’s 345km range. Maximum charging rates remain the same at 11kW AC (with the optional three-phrase onboard charger) and 100kW DC.
Come 2024, Peugeot will reveal a hybrid variant of the 2008 that comes with a 48V hybrid system and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. Peugeot claims that the new hybrid will have a 15% lower fuel consumption figure and can operate in fully electric mode alone to net you more fuel savings.
