SINGAPORE — The Porsche Macan gets an update for 2016, in the form of some added muscle for the entry-level model.

The basic 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo now gets along with 252 horsepower (up from 237hp), with 370Nm of peak torque available from 1,600rpm to 4,500rpm.

The model year 2017 (MY2017) Macan hits 100km/h in 6.7 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker than before). If you add the Sport Chrono Package, that improves to a speedy 6.5 seconds.

Porsche says it tops out at 229km/h and sips fuel at the rate of 7.2L/100km.

The MY2017 Macan props up a five-model range, slotting in below the V6, twin-turbo Macan S that proved to be the most popular version here, at least when the car was launched in July 2014.

Spotters should look out for the basic Macan’s black side window trim strips and black brake calipers, and two single tailpipes made of brushed stainless steel.

The car’s price is now $230,088 without COE, but Porsche says it has features found in the pricier Macan S, like comfort seats with electric eight-way adjustment on the driver’s side, and Alcantara middle seat panels.

It also comes with the latest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM), a lane-departure warning system and a powered tailgate.

Porsche’s other SUV, the larger Cayenne, has also gained new features for the year. The MY2017 Cayenne features a new high-res touchscreen for its PCM system.

Its interface has been redesigned to make it more smartphone-like, and Apple CarPlay is a new option. Music to iOS users’ ears, presumably.
