The legendary luxury automaker sold more cars in 2021 than any other time in its history
London, United Kingdom
Covid-19 causing a worldwide economic slump? Well the really rich didn’t get the memo. Rolls-Royce recorded a 49 percent surge in car sales in 2021 to its highest figures in history, despite the global coronavirus pandemic.
The super-luxury carmaker noted that there was an uptake in demand worldwide for luxury vehicles throughout 2021. Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said the brand sold 5,586 vehicles last year, the highest sales figure ever recorded in its 117-year history despite the economic volatility brought on by the pandemic.
“The struggle was not so much focused on attempting to find customers, but rather producing enough product to satisfy huge customer demand,” Müller-Ötvös said.
Premium and luxury car sales have been growing quickly in areas like China and the United States as pandemic travel restrictions have left wealthy consumers with other ways to spend their money. It’s also a fact that in some circles a limited edition super luxury car is considered a better investment than many other commodities as their prices rise after the model is discontinued.
Incredibly, Müller-Ötvös stated that the Rolls-Royce plant in Goodwood, England, is already running at close to maximum capacity. Order books are already full well into the third quarter of 2022. This means that if you were to place an order for a Rolls-Royce right now, expect to take delivery only in 2023.
Rolls-Royce isn’t alone in this, as Bentley also announced a 31 percent sales increase for the 2021 calendar year.
Meanwhile in Singapore, the Black Badge Ghost landed in late 2021 with a base price of S$1.5 million before COE, slightly under a year after the initial launch of the second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost.
The brand is highly secretive of actual sales figures in Singapore, but did concede that the Ghost, an entry-level Rolls Royce, has sold above expectations in this part of the world.
