Land Rover and Jaguar will introduce all-new landmark new models to Singapore this year, according to the brands’ local dealer Wearnes Automotive. The new cars will see both Jaguar and Land Rover enter new segments, which will only help boost their presence here further.
The first to arrive will be the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which is billed as the ‘spiritual successor’ to the Freelander. Essentially a premium compact SUV destined to challenge the likes of the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, the Discovery Sport is the only vehicle in its segment to offer the option of seven seats (in what Land Rover calls a ‘5+2′ seating configuration). The car has already arrived in Singapore in fact, and was presented for a special media preview during Wearnes’ Chinese New Year media lunch, with the Disco Sport set to go on sale sometime around April or May.
The Disco Sport is based upon the Range Rover Evoque’s architecture, and therefore will sit alongside its sibling in Land Rover’s revised line-up, which will consist of Range Rover, Discovery and Defender families. The Discovery Sport is therefore the first model to debut under this family line-up, and will be followed by the full fat Discovery within the next couple of years, as well as potentially other models in the range. The Disco Sport is targeted towards young families who desire a practical premium compact SUV, and will act as a counterpoint to the Evoque, which is targeted towards stylish singles.
For Singapore, Land Rover will offer the 2.0-litre petrol variant with 240bhp and 340Nm of torque. Diesel versions are not in the pipeline for our market for now, although they may be available upon request on an indent basis. We’ve driven the Discovery Sport already in Iceland, and you can read our exclusive review right here on CarBuyer.com.sg.

Later in the year, it will be Jaguar’s turn to launch a landmark car, with the introduction of the new XE, which is set to do battle in the compact executive sector, against the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The XE will be Jaguar’s first contender in this segment for nearly half a decade, after the X-Type was discontinued in 2009. Jaguar promises that the new XE will put up a better fight in this fiercely competitive sector, with newly-developed engines and an all-new aluminium modular architecture that will form the basis for future Jaguar models being the key highlights. The XE will also be the first Jaguar model to feature JLR’s new InControl infotainment system, which allows the user to sync up their smartphones to the car’s system and access downloadable apps for features such as navigation and internet radio streaming. (This system will also be present on the Discovery Sport)
Jaguar has yet to confirm the engine options that are bound for Singapore, but there are three petrol units to choose from. Most likely to be definitely offered is the top-spec XE S performance model, which has a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 that pumps out 340bhp and 450Nm of torque, while we’ll probably also get either one of the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines available, in either 200bhp or 240bhp spec, or even the possibility of both. The XE is scheduled to reach Singapore by the fourth quarter of 2015.

Further down the line, Jaguar will introduce yet another breakthrough model, in the form of its first ever SUV. Dubbed the F-Pace, the car will probably arrive here sometime in 2016, and while pictures have not yet been released, Jaguar has said that it will bear strong resemblance to the C-X17 concept car. Details are still sketchy for now, but Jaguar maintains that the car will be a truly sporting SUV that will challenge the likes of the Porsche Macan and BMW X4. The brand has also stated that the F-Pace will not erode into sister brand Land Rover’s customer base, as the target customers will be looking for something significantly different from what Land Rover can offer.
