The smart #1 Pro+ and #1 BRABUS will be the carmaker’s first electric vehicles to be sold here since Cycle & Carriage was announced as their general distributor.

SINGAPORE

Electric vehicle brand Smart Automobile has officially entered the Singapore market with their #1 Pro+ and #1 BRABUS compact SUVs.

It is a 50/50 joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Chinese automotive group Geely, with general distributorship rights in Singapore held by multi-franchise motor group Cycle & Carriage.

Launched at a media event at Mandarin Oriental last Friday, the automaker showed off both variants of their #1 compact crossovers, with representatives from both Cycle & Carriage and Smart Automobile present for an official signing ceremony.

Unlike the original Smart-branded microcars that were brought in by parallel importers in the early 2000s, the #1 features a more conventional SUV form, with design efforts led by the Mercedes-Benz Global design team.

Its larger dimensions are able to comfortably accommodate five occupants, with premium touches that include frameless doors and retractable door handles.

There is also a slew of innovative new technologies to be found on-board. Owners will be able to enjoy functionalities such as an AI-based voice assistant that comes in the form of a fox, a customised infotainment user interface, and a dedicated app environment.

While technical specifications have not been disclosed, the automaker states that the rear-wheel drive #1 Pro+ has a range of “over 400 km”, with a 0-100 km/h timing of 6.7 seconds. The spicier BRABUS model comes with an all-wheel drive, dual-motor setup, providing a peak power output of 428 hp. Nought to 100 km/h will take just 3.9 seconds.

The BRABUS model is also kitted out with a specially-tuned chassis with a more aggressive front fascia, BRABUS-designed seats, an Alcantara-lined steering wheel, and more.

Smart Automobile is expected to launch its showroom at Level 3 of the Mercedes-Benz Center at 301 Alexandra Road in the second half of this year.

In the meantime, the carmaker will launch the car to the general public at Vivocity later this April, along with pop-up event spaces at other shopping centres. It will also partner with institutions such as LASALLE College of the Arts and entities like Sunset Cinema to attract car enthusiasts, as well as inspiring and recognising future talents.
