Honda’s Power Pack Exchanger e: is a major step toward widespread adoption of electric motorcycles using a swappable battery concept

Tokyo, Japan –
Honda has begun sales of its battery exchange station in Japan. Dubbed the Honda Power Pack Exchange e:, it’s a battery swap station that will be sold to service providers or energy stations.

The station is where users of the battery swap service will go to exchange depleted batteries for fresh ones, with the first and primary use of the pack is to power small motorcycles with a battery-swap concept.

Such bikes already exist, as operated by Gogoro in Taiwan, for example, and that company recently set up a pilot project here in Singapore. Battery swap concepts have been provided for in the LTA’s latest technical regulations

The Honda Power Pack is a modular electric battery produced by the Japanese conglomerate.

means it can be used to power any number of devices ranging from forklifts to golf carts or even portable generators. For reference, the first electric motorcycles we’ve tested have had a capacity of

The first station was delivered to Gachaco Inc, which is a battery-swap service company, a joint venture setup by Eneos and all four major Japanese motorcycle makers, namely Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha. Last year, a group of motorcycle makers in Europe – including Honda and Yamaha – joined forces to create their own battery-swapping consortium.
