The Tesla Model Y is now available to buy from Tesla Singapore with the standard Model Y RWD and Model Y Performance available here
SINGAPORE — The Tesla Model Y is now officially on sale in Singapore, with prices and everything.
Two versions of the electric Sport Utility Vehicle are up on the local Tesla configurator. The single-motor, rear wheel drive Tesla Model Y starts at S$142,271 without Certificate Of Entitlement (COE).
The dual-motor, all-wheel drive Tesla Model Y Performance costs S$189,995 without COE.
At the moment you’ll have to budget just over S$100,000 for a Category B or Category E COE (we analyse the return of the dreaded 100 grand COE too) if you want to take either one home, which means the Model Y RWD costs around S$240k with a COE, and Performance is S$290k with COE.
We scratched about for local details earlier in the year when it was homologated, and as revealed in that story, there will be no seven-seat version coming to Singapore. If you order your Model Y now, Tesla says the estimated delivery date is in “late 2022”, which is unsurprising given the seemingly limitless demand for Teslas worldwide.
The figures performance-wise are a 455km range for the Model Y RWD with 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 6.9 seconds, with a 217km/h top speed.
For the Model Y, buyers have a choice of five colours (white, black are standard colours, grey, blue are metallic for S$1,500 extra, and red metallic for S$3,000 extra) with two colours (white or black) for the interior. 19-inch wheels are standard for the RWD, with optional 20-inchers for S$3k.
Like the Model 3, the Model Y has a panoramic glass roof (fixed), and a 15-inch central touchscreen that controls and displays all functions for the car, from climate control, to speed, and safety. Media streaming is via Bluetooth, as Tesla cars do not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but it has its own navigation software, traffic monitoring, and music streaming capabilities onboard through the paid-for Premium Connectivity service. There’s space for two phones in a wireless charging dock up front.
As an SUV, the Model Y has a a second row with adjustable seatbacks that also fold-flat. Officially, there’s 867-litres of boot space, which is larger than most similar mid-sized SUV, but the measurements are different. The car also includes a powered tailgate.
The EV space is getting wired here : – BMW’s rival iX3 is already a proven to be excellent here,
– Polestar aims to topple the Model 3 sedan with its own Polestar 2
The Model Y Performance has dual motors and around 550hp for a 0-100km/h time of only 3.7 seconds, a 250km/h top speed, and WLTP range of 514km. Tesla does not officially quote battery pack size, but this model has around 75kWh from its lithium ion cells. The Model Y RWD has a 70kWh battery, while the Model Y Performance has a 90kWh battery.
Besides the performance bump, you get 21-inch ‘Uberturbine’ blacked out wheels (above), higher-performance brakes, lowered suspensions, and aluminum pedals. The other features are otherwise identical to the Model Y RWD.
Telsa has been a major success in Singapore, going from nothing to one of the top 10 car brands in its first year (not even a full year) and expanding its Supercharger network, as well as opening its own showroom. It’s mostly avoided the controversies that it’s faced abroad, mostly safety-related, including US crash investigations into its Autopilot systems, and phantom braking from FSD safety system.
