Against a backdrop of swanky designer wear and watches, Audi unveils the new Q4 e-tron within their very own pop-up booth, located right outside ION Orchard. The Q4 e-tron is the German carmaker’s second electric SUV here, where by size, sits between the Q3 and Q5.

Available both in SUV and Sportback body styles, the Q4 e-tron gets its drive from a rear-mounted electric motor, which produces 282hp (210kW) and 545Nm. Performance-wise, the Q4 e-tron does the benchmark 100km/h in a brisk 6.7 seconds, while maximum speed is limited to 180km/h.

Power comes from an underfloor 77kWh battery, which Audi says, provides a range of 466km for the SUV, and 482km for the Sportback (the latter’s superior aerodynamics plays a significant role in the added range). Apart from an 11kW AC destination charge capability, the battery has a DC high power charging (HPC) capacity of 135 kW, which gets it from 10-percent to 80-percent in 28 minutes.

At launch, two trims are available – the ‘advanced’ and ‘edition 1’. The latter was the variant we took for our first drive, from Ingolstadt, to Zwickau, and then on to Munich, a short while ago. The ‘edition 1’ variant has a fancier equipment list, that include Matrix LED headlights that feature four different light signatures, an innovative augmented reality sat-nav heads-up display and a set of 21-inch wheels. The ‘advanced’ variant on the other hand, receives less-flamboyant headlamps with LED DRLs, and “makes do” with a set of 19-inch rims.

“The Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback’s entry into Singapore is a significant milestone for us. These models are the newest generation of electric SUVs in Singapore, and offer local consumers a more accessible yet spacious electric vehicle for everyday needs,” said Markus Schuster, Managing Director, Audi Singapore. “Our launch of these models at ION Orchard is also an immersive way we can bring the Audi experience to our customers at the heart of the city, and part of our strategy to continuously enhance the overall customer experience.”

While the Q4 e-tron is shorter than its ICE Q5 sibling, it features a more cab-forward design, with its bonnet taking up very little real estate. So while things seem quite normal up in-front, at the rear, leg space is only about an inch less than what you might get in the larger Q8 e-tron, which Lionel and I took for a drive in Germany last year. And speaking of space, the Q4 e-tron’s interior has around 25-litres of storage, that include bottle holders, integrated into the upper section of the doors for easier access.

Boot space is also generous. The SUV variant boasts 520-litre boot, while the Sportback benefits from fifteen more litres, at 535-litres; both which are around the ballpark of what the Audi Q3 offers.

Prices for the ‘advanced’ trim Audi Q4 e-tron start at $254,999* for the SUV, while the Sportback retails for $259,999*. The ‘edition 1’ models cost an additional $20,000 per body style.

The cars are currently on display at the ION Orchard pop-up boutique, from now till 7 July. Customers can experience the cars, and get acquainted with like-minded brands that include Sonos, Bolia, Leica, Sincere Fine Watches and Kwanpen.

Those who are keen to take the Q4 e-tron for a test drive, can book them in advance via audi.com.sg.
