Meet the nominees of CarBuyer Singapore’s Car Of The Year

SINGAPORE 

CarBuyer Singapore’s very first Car Of The Year awards is here! We shortlist the best of Singapore motoring from 2022, and you vote for the winner! 

After all the other categories, here’s the chance to vote for the best all-rounder. It’s for the car that has stood out the most in all ways, from technology, to safety, driving experience, performance and more. This is the car that redefines what cars should be like and what consumers should expect from any car hereon.

We stress here that at CarBuyer Singapore, we are ultimately not car designers and engineers, so will never nominate a car based on its technical qualities alone. Rather, we aim to pick the nominees based on how relevant they are to be local drivers and how well they serve their target audiences in the Singaporean context.

So here are the nominees for the CarBuyer Singapore Car of the Year.

Audi A3

As a gateway car into luxury continental cars, the A3 1.0 has more than just a nice badge. It is a prime example of the petrol-to-hybrid transition, and the car’s very efficient three-cylinder turbo petrol  engine is as cheap to run as an EV.

BMW i4

While driving enthusiasts throw shade at EVs for their claimed ‘lack of driving character’, the BMW i4 comes along to address all of that. Its keen driving character and pricing puts BMW’s first electric sedan in a strong position in Singapore.

BYD Atto 3

Almost perfectly suited to the urban Singaporean driving environment, the all-electric, new BYD crossover SUV shows that Chinese EVs are ready to conquer the world with its excellent combination of refinement and power efficiency. You really need to get into one to realise how competent it is.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

An evergreen classic refreshed for a new generation, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is now much improved in all areas. It is still a benchmark luxury executive car for local drivers, and  now gets new mild hybrid drivetrains for greater efficiency too.

Skoda Octavia RS

The quiet achiever of the Skoda lineup is also the quiet achiever of all cars launched here in 2022, we reckon. It balances a really sporty drive with world-class refinement, along with plenty of luggage space and comfort for the whole family. All while still staying at a reasonable price point.

Tesla Model Y

Tesla’s Model Y blends electrifying performance and plenty of practicality with its spacious interior. It’s bigger and offers more space than the Model 3, and was a crazy hot seller during the month of its launch. The design language continues to be a love-it or hate-it affair, but based on its strengths the Model Y deserves a spot on the nomination list.
