Another Chinese EV brand arrives on our shores. Geely Group’s Zeekr X is a small premium SUV, created by the guys with links to Volvo and Polestar

Luxury EV brand, Zeekr made its debut in style at the ArtScience Museum to a crowd of 200 yesterday. The Zeekr X, is the first offering for Singapore, from the Geely-owned EV brand, which seeks to expand its presence within the Asia Pacific region.

At the unveiling, Mr Mars Chen, Vice President of Zeekr said: “As Singapore continues to progress its EV transition, we believe that there is a desire for EVs that go beyond being simply a form of conveyance, to offering a premium driving experience with conveniences that elevate urban living. We are optimistic that our launch today will grow our footprint across Southeast Asia and beyond.”

Built upon the group’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the Zeekr X shares its roots with the Smart #1 and Volvo EX30, both marques which have Geely’s involvement.

Currently, the Zeekr X SUV is available in two variants. A Standard (RWD) and a Flagship (AWD) variant. Both cars put out 268hp and 343Nm. Both X variants receive power from a 66kWh lithium-ion battery, with cells supplied by CATL (the same supplier for the electric Porsche Macan); to which Zeekr says, is able to fast charge with a 150kW DC charger, which replenishes the battery, from 10-80 percent in under 30 minutes. A full charge on a standard AC charger (Standard model 7kW, Flagship model 11kW) from empty, takes around 7 hours.

The Zeekr X’s cockpit features 5G-enabled connectivity, intuitive controls, and promises occupants with an immersive user experience. The infotainment system also benefits from the Zeekr Voice Assistant, where with the assistance of AI allows users to control a vast number of vehicle features, which include navigation, climate control and media. All this is made possible via a Qualcomm 8155 chipset, which facilitates super-fast response, while updates to the X’s firmware are kept up-to-date over-the-air.

The Chinese carmaker also announced plans to introduce the Zeekr 009 electric MPV, although there is no confirmed date when it will reach our shores.

Premium Automobiles, Zeekr’s appointed official distributor, is no stranger to the industry, as it has already held the exclusive distributorship of Audi here since 1999. Recently, they were awarded the distributorship of another Chinese EV brand – XPENG.

The Zeekr X is available at the Zeekr Experience Centre, which is located at 9 Leng Kee Road. Prices revealed at launch are S$199,999 for the rear-wheel drive Standard model, while the all-wheel drive variant retails for S$214,999.
