Ferrari celebrates its 70th anniversary with the 12Cilindri – An ode to the V12

MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA

Ferrari celebrated its 70th anniversary at Miami Beach, with the launch of the new flagship 12Cilindri. Billed as the successor to the 812 Superfast. The 12Cilindri is Maranello’s latest 2-seater berlinetta that is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 mid-front mounted engine. The latest model represents Ferrari’s Grand Tourer legacy, dating back to the 1950s, by elevating towards new benchmarks in terms of design, comfort and performance.

Aimed at those who truly appreciate the iconic V12, the 12Cilindri’s silhouette exhibits clean lines accompanied by integrated active aerodynamics; And true to being a grand tourer, a stretched-long bonnet up front, hides the 12Cilindri’s magnificent V12. The 12Cilindri is offered in both a coupe and retractable hardtop spider body styles. The latter converts in all of 14 seconds, even at speeds of up to 45 km/h.

Visually, the 12Cilindri takes you back to the 50s and 60s, with its purposeful lines, which largely channel the 365 Daytona. Over on the inside, the dashboard features distinct binnacles, like those seen on the Purosangue. The 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is part of the new Human Machine Interface (HMI), sits lower and away from your vision, keeping you at one with the road. And of-course, to keep you in-touch with the rest of the world,  Apple CarPlay or Android Auto offer mobile connectivity. A wireless charging pad, located on the central tunnel makes for easier charging of mobile devices.

Your passenger too can get into the action, via their own 8.8-inch touchscreen display, which allows them to monitor speed and drive information, and also allows them to toggle audio settings. And on the subject of audio, there is the option of a high-end Burmester audio system, that comprises 15 loudspeakers, which are powered by a 1600W amplifier (although we’d probably prefer the undisrupted exhaust note of that mighty naturally-aspirated V12 engine). With a lean to be more environmentally sustainable, the 12Cilindri’s alcantara upholstery is made from 65-percent recycled polyester.

In a time of turbocharging and hybridisation, Ferrari’s retaining of their V12 gains even more importance. In the 12Cilindri, it puts out 818bhp and 678Nm, and wherever you can, the engine revs effortlessly to 9,500rpm. It is also more willing, since you are able to harness 80-percent of that torque from as low as 2,500rpm. Drive is transmitted via an 8-speed dual clutch transmission (the same found in the SF90 Stradale and Purosangue). The 12Cilindri clocks 0-100km/h in 2.9s, and boasts a top speed in excess of 340km/h. To complement the superb howl of that V12, two twin tailpipes – signature of V12 Ferrari cars, provide all who are listening with a memorable soundtrack.

In the handling and active safety department, the 12Cilindri is equipped with a myriad of goodies such as active rear wheel steering, ABS EVO anti-lock brakes. Ferrari has also included an updated version of their Ferrari’s slide slip control (v8.0), to ensure improved traction, and allow owners to toggle drift aspects of the car for even more engagement on the track.

Ferrari has also worked extensively on keeping drag down, and downforce up, by adopting two active flaps instead of a rear spoiler, which rises up to 10 degrees for improved downforce and aerodynamics. New to the brand is its Aspirated Torque Shaping, which is essential to providing enhanced linear power delivery from the V12 engine.

The 12Cilindri is fitted with 275/35ZR21 on the front and 315/35ZR21 at the rear, with an option to choose between Michelin Pilot Sport S5 or Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres.

We understand that the indicative price for the 12Cilindri once it reaches our shores, begins at S$2.3m before COE and options.
