This is Honda’s e:Ny1 all-electric SUV

The Honda e:Ny1 is the Japanese carmaker’s first all-electric crossover based on the HR-V

This here is the Honda e:Ny1, the first all-electric crossover from Honda, and the second electric vehicle after the Honda e supermini (which isn’t officially on sale in Singapore).

While Honda is no stranger to electrification tech, the brand is only in its infancy where fully-fledged EVs are concerned. We’ve already talked about Honda’s unique e:HEV system which combines the attributes of both EV and ICE by using electricity at low speeds and the ICE engine at highway speeds.

Honda has applied the e:HEV tech in the latest Jazz hatchback and the Civic e:HEV, and even the HR-V. But the e:Ny1’s drivetrain ditches the ICE and doubles down on the EV portion of that equation.

The e:Ny1 will be built atop Honda’s “newly developed” e:N Architecture F, which is essentially a derivative of the platform that underpins the HR-V crossover. The similarities aren’t skin deep either.

The Honda e:Ny1 shares many visual cues with the HR-V, with a near identical body shell and identical headlamps and taillamps that include a continuous full-width light bar that isn’t broken up by the Honda emblem. Instead, the e:Ny1 has the Honda name spelt out in text just beneath the light bar.

The front grille has been ditched and in its place is a smooth panel (because EV) that retracts to reveal the charging port for the car.

Inside, a large (and massive) 15.0-inch vertical screen dominates the dashboard, while the driver gets a smaller digital gauge cluster. The dashboard itself isn’t too dissimilar from the ICE-powered HR-V, but minor tweaks have been made to accommodate the infotainment screen and cluster panel.

Under the hood is a lightweight “three-in-one” integrated drive unit that combines the electric motor and gearbox and a drive unit that sends power to the front wheels.

According to Honda, the integrated drive unit produces 204 horsepower (150kW) and 310Nm of torque. Honda says it’ll have a 68.8kWh battery that is capable of providing up to 412km (WLTP) of range on a single charge, and that the battery pack can be charged from 10-80% in just 45 minutes with a 100kW DC charger.

As of now, we know that the Honda e:Ny1 will be sold in Europe, but exact details on the car’s availability in our region haven’t been made known. While we doubt that “anyone” (ENY1, geddit?) will understand the naming convention, we’re sure many can get behind the idea of an all-electric B-segment crossover from Honda.
